OK, maybe they could have offered £5 tickets to schoolkids then, something, ANYTHING GODAMMIT!!

the topic is a valid one, and as we have a good run in the past in this cup, what can be done to save it?

 

all clubs in the CL cannot enter? that would mean us, chelsea, man u and arsenal cannot enter it. After all, if any one of these clubs win it, it just means another league spot to the UEFA anyway.

Seriously though. Anyone playing in European Competition should not be eligible

Agree in theory with stopping Champions League teams entering but not UEFA Cup (mainly because it ought to be defended) however I like us being in it. It's another cup final and trophy and you can't go wrong with that.

The league cup isn't just about what the top few teams think about it. It's another chance for smaller clubs to play big clubs and have their shot at glory and revenue. It shouldn't be derided because a few big clubs deem themselves to be above a trophy.

 

Besides this question is so cyclical. The whole of the country was watchin the game when it was us v the mancs/chelsea and when chelsea played the mancs. The competition suddenly becomes important again then in the national psyche aqnd there isn't a question of scrapping it.

 

I hate Chelsea but I do have to give them a bit of kudos for takingthe competition seriously

It's not just the bigger teams who don't take it seriously. Wigan who are in the semi's played a reserve team vs Newastle. Many other teams in the premiership are more concerned about staying in it than playing in the Yoofa next season. We got there last season on the backs of largely reserve team players. Then we put a full team out at Cardiff. If that is to be the case why not let the smaller teams battle it out and make the Charity shield later in the season, make it more competitive game and actually mean something. Therefore the minnows battle for a chance to get to a final and the previous seasons League and Cup winners play a game of some significance.

I was including Wigan in my thoughts as a bigger club. I don't see why an important cup competiton should be downplayed. If the League Cup goes the FA cup will be next on the agenda and smaller teams will be more and more marginalised. The reason the League Cup is being mistreated is because of money. Teams want the money from staying in the league or qualifying for the champions' league. It's rubbish. A trophy should be more important than where you finish so you get a few more pounds

While we have 2 domestic cups it will only bring the pair of them down.

 

Scrap the league cup and it would revive the FA Cup without a doubt. With all the matches played at the moment there is just no need for 2 domestic cups. Once the league cup is scrapped they need to give the 4th CL spot to the winners of the FA Cup. Furthermore the FA need to give back some of the millions they earn from sponsorship and the like back to the clubs. £30m if you win the CL. £10m if you win the PL. £1.25m if you win the FA Cup (including what you pick up through each round) and nothing if you win the League Cup.

My opinion is that Premier League clubs should be invited to go in. That or not let Premier League clubs in. It would make the FA cup more important again.

For some fans the League Cup may be one of the few chances they'll get to see their team play. It's also a good opportunity to see how any young up-and-coming players or reserves are doing. To play against a big team, to go to grounds they wouldn't otherwise go to - to knock out the team from the division above - or below. To try and get into Europe for the season after, to generate some money, to try and get through to a Cup Final and play at the Millenium Stadium (or Wembley), and to win a trophy.

 

Come the day of the League Cup Final is there one fan who'd rather not be there to cheer his team on?
