Will Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 What has he got - in terms of ability The ability to score and create goals?
Eiler99 Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 What has he got - in terms of ability - that players like Carrick, Murphy and Parker hasn't? Apart from world class teammates. Deflections.
Spion kop Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 his overall team play although good is not world class, however he can win games with his goals.
psl Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 He scores as many goals as a good striker and makes as many as a top midfielder. He does it for Chelsea and England. His record is frankly unbelievable and sets him apart from the others you mentioned. He's a wonderful attacking midfield player.
Ombudsam Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Yes, he's got an impressive goal/assist record, but when i watch his general play i just can't believe this guy is considered one of best midfielders in Europe. What has he got - in terms of ability - that players like Carrick, Murphy and Parker hasn't? Apart from world class teammates. unerringly accurate finsher from midfield and takes up great positions to score goals from. Very good at putting the ball into the most dangerous areas of the box. Good passer, covers a fair bit of ground

He doesn't really take up "great positions" does he. He waits until the defence sits back and larumphs it from just outside the D and in off someone's a***. He also skies a lot over the bar. In a rubbish team, he'd only be getting talked up because he's English. He's not crap, but he's not that good. Edited January 10, 2006 by philmatthews

It's just unfortunate that his fellow professionals in England, the English football journalists, European football journalists and International Coaches and Captains disagree - but what do they know?

Very good at putting the ball into the most dangerous areas of the box. Good passer, covers a fair bit of groundThat's pretty much it.Aside from his goals,he doesn't provide as much as a Gerrard, for example. But his goals are a huge part of his game,so to ignore them would be stupidity. He's not the complete midfield player that Gerrard is,he's not as good, but he's a fine attacking mid.
Runehammer Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 while he may not be as complete a player as gerrard, he is probably the most consistant midfielder in europe over the past 2 seasons, to say that murphy, carrick or parker is anywhere near as good as him is just stupid He's good but I think he flatters to decieve, he is often anonymous against top opposition IMHO.
Guz Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 He's good but I think he flatters to decieve, he is often anonymous against top opposition IMHO. So is Gerrard
Maldini Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 So is GerrardMyth. Lampard is superb at what he does. He may be a class A c***, but anyone who says he's s**** is either deluded or knows nothing about football.
Runehammer Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 So is Gerrard Maybe in the past but since the final against Milan I can't say I've noticed and he was certainly awesome in that game (after half-time) and I don't think Lampard has that in his locker.

Since the final he's come up against Lampard three times and Roy Keane once. All four games were pretty tight and I cant remember him turning in a spectacual performance in any of them. Stevie certainly has that midfield general aura about him which Lampard certainly does not.
