What is it with this fella? I know he is a brilliant midfielder and looks like a guy that is well up for fighting for this team. But we hear stories all the time and now he is(supposedly) thinking about whether to sign again or not. f*** him and f*** his agent/s, he has held us to ransom once already, get the c*** out if he does not want to stay.

To be fair i've not heard any direct quotes, but he does seem to fancy a move off and think it will happen sooner or later.

Seems fairly ungrateful for us rescuing his career.

Hopefully he goes abroad and we get good money.

We were rubbish at replacing Xabi, I don't expect us to replace Masch or any other of our top players for that matter with world beaters. We need to everything we can to get them to squeeze another season out of them and get back into the CL.

If they want to go there's not much we can do. Get full whack and spend it wisely. I'm not sure Masch will be a huge loss domestically anyway and it could mean a more attacking mentality.

Disagree heavily, it would mean two years running we're selling our player of the season - as I said you only have to look at Alonso situation from last year to see what an impact losing Mascherano could have on the team. 08/09 Ferguson held onto Ronaldo for one more year, had he not we would have been champions and they probably wouldn't have made the CL final. It's difficult given our financial situation and Europa League status but we need to fight to keep hold of these guys or we're looking at 5th-8th in the short to medium term.

I agree. We should only sign players who are too sh*t to play for anyone else

That transfer strategy is a good, and indeed the only, fit for our financial strategy.

Its not really comparable. Alonso was the player of the season in a season when we looked a proper team. Last year, we were nowhere close and, to be honest, I'm not sure Masch was the player of the season anyway - Reina would be a much better candidate. In any case, I'd say a player like Masch is much easier to replace than a player like Alonso.

excellent thread

Excellent post, so you are fine with the fact that for the first two months Masch was playing s*** because his head was wrecked over the Barcelona thing?

I reckon it was more the Argentina thing. As soon as Argentina qualified he was our best player

Think Masch said it was a combination of both things wasn't it.

Yes he did. I still reckon the timing suggests it was more the Argentina thing though

I reckon he would have got over the Barca thing quicker

I don't reckon Barca will go for him this summer anyway

I am happy with how he got it out of his head and and became our best outfield player after these first two months

If we can forgive Gerrard, shirley you have it in you to forgive Masch and move on and hope he stays with us

This is great, it's just like reading the papers, lots of foaming at the mouth indignation with no direct quotes. Fantastic, perhaps we should start a thread like this for each player. Except Lucas of course...

Agree with that, aslong as a player gives his all for the shirt, it's all that matters really. Still wouldn't be surprised if he'd been talked into one more season last Summer, with Rafa desperate not to lose both him and Xabi at the same time.

Here are some much needed direct quotes from Mascherano.

"The club are talking with my agents. I don't like to be involved in the contract meetings so I leave that to my agents and the people at the club," said Mascherano.

"Liverpool know I want to stay. I don't think it will be difficult to arrive at a deal and we will see what happens in the next few weeks."

"I have never said I was not happy at Liverpool," he added. "That was the press. I am happy here and the only way I can show that is with my performances on the pitch.

"I always try to do everything I can to help my teammates and manager. Sometimes I can do well and sometimes I can't, but I always look to give one hundred per cent in training and in games."

He said this two months ago BTW. Until I hear direct quotes from a reliable source elsewhere, stating he wants to leave, I'll choose to belive he wants to stay.

He's come out and said that his wife is struggling to settle here. I know if my wife was moaning all of the time about being in England, and there was the opportunity to move to Spain, where you know she'd be much happier, it'd be a hard move to turn down.

Easily replaceable is he? What a load of rubbish. Mascherano is an absolute warrior, a beast in the middle of the pitch. Only him, Reina, Carragher, Krygiakos and Torres can hold their heads up and not feel ashamed about the pathetic team performance this season. And you're saying get rid? We should be bending over backwards to make his wife feel more settled.
