'lifelong Chelsea fan'

Interesting that Rafa is also quoted in the article as saying

Meanwhile, manager Rafael Benitez has hinted he needs £60m to bring in new players next season - but he conceded he will have to offload some players to raise funds.

He said: "The cost of a top-class player is about £20m. I think we need three.

"We want to keep the spine of the team. But sometimes you have to manage and you have to sell two or three players who aren't playing many games."

I read that as AA is to be sold, and as we all know Riera is obviously going to go.

edit and apparently Crouchs wages were doubled at Portsmouth - no wonder theyre f***ed.

Dunno about AA, suspect so though. Would expect Babel, Benayoun, Riera, Insua, Auerlio (released) and Degen to be gone though.

I a really suspicious of this appointment.

I think he's been brought in to be the 'hatchet man' for the two t***s in an attempt to deflect the feeling of hate towards themselves.

Something does not smell right for me with this.

think you're right. He's being brought in to make the decisions that they have been arguing over or been putting off.

I don't care anymore. It can hardly get much worse.

I'm just waiting for the selling of the top players to service debt and the whole misery package will be complete.

Benayoun signed a new long term contract last year didn't he? Would be surprised if he was to go.

Broughton is not the hatchet man - he is the beginning of the solution.

It may yet be a way off, but it's a good move - as soon as the purchasers are confirmed, we'll all be in a better place I'm sure.

In your opinion, do you see this as a move towards new ownership in the short term (before next season) or are we looking at "in 2011 sometime".

This year, in my opinion.

(Is that sufficiently 'on the fence' for you??)

Just wondered what you in particular thought - and saying "this year" is miles away from fence sitting.

That sounds to me like there are purchasers identified already. Would that be correct ?

No idea.

But I'd be absolutely amazed if they weren't (already identified)

Or at the very least down to a very tight shortlist the banks are in principal far happier with.

if we're doing cultural stereotypes, i'd prefer the indians, greater respect for tradition.

Or the Welsh - miserable, singing skint f*ckers - would suit our fans to the ground

(runs as he hears Crastow stampeding indignantly in this direction...)
