What would it take for you to boycott the club?

Early last year, in the wake of news of the Klinsmann approach, I posted the topic "When does supporting the team start to harm the club" or somethinglikethat... and people were pretty much steadfastly against a boycott.

Has that view changed?

What would it take for you to boycott the club you love short-term - in the long-term interest of getting rid of the Americans?

Last season we come a good second, this season we lose one game and you are considering a boycott? FFS.

Despite quoting my post you've manged not to read it, well done!

"Early last year, in the wake of news of the Klinsmann approach" wasn't last season - it was the 2007-2008 season!

...and where does it say I've "considered" doing anything?

I have merely posted a question for debate.

READ . IT . AGAIN . SLOWLY!

i started boycotting the club when all the Rafa/Klinsmann b******s started.. first to go was e-season and stopped buying from club shops or club products etc.. I did go to games till I moved out of the country and do fly for one off games whenever i get the chance.. however, even that will be unlikely now that I have no access to tickets etc.. probably will request from the forum but unlikely will get them..

there is a picket being organaised for the Villa game isnt there? fans being encouraged not to go, and teh entrances are to be picketted. will be interested in seeing how this pans out

Organised pickets & boycotts are more likely to make me not boycott.*

First I've heard of this, Wayne. How's it come about?

* the Sheff Wed boycott years back excepted.

there is a big thread on Raotl about it. any dissenters getting shot down by those trying to organise it. will be interesting to see whether it goes ahead and what the outcome is.

How can you have any kind of boycott or picket unless somebody f*cking organises it?

To get back to the original question, I would support a boycott if there was (a) a clear objective for the boycott (b) a strong possibility or even a probability of making the boycott work and © enough people willing and able to participate. Sadly I don't think any of those will ever be in alignment.

I'd boycott tomorrow if proper action was ready and there was a good chance it'd work. The sad part is theres probably loads in the ground who dont use the internet and think "they brought Torres and Mascherano and say nice stuff on TV so are amazing"

If it is well supported there will be empty seats and that may get a bit of attention but the downside to it is, it could mean a lack of atmosphere and support which could affect the players performance, the other point is it will have diddly squat effect on the owners because the ticket money will already be in the club's bank account.

How would the boycott work? Unless it's announced far enough in advance for people not to buy tickets, the Yanks won't care if the stadium is full of empty, bought seats and it'll be to the detriment of the team.

A thread on RAOTL planning this and picketing gates is just going to get people's backs up.

There already is a lack of atmosphere. And affecting the players performance doesnt really matter, its the clubs whole future here that matters, not the outcome of one game.

Nah. Less matchday income but also sends a massive signal out. If it could be done it would be worth doing but doing it would be very tough.

Lazio fans (racist bla bla whatever) have done quite a lot of protests in the past, one was arriving in the curva nord after the game had kicked off. Others have been staying silent, bringing no banners etc though Gillett and Hicks wouldnt care about that one obviously. But stuff can be done. The only thing is out there you have a lot more freedom to do what you like, the ultras organise loads and theres hardly any stewards or anything about in the ground.

Heres pics of the getting in the ground late. The thing with that is getting enough people on it. And im not saying do this exact protest before anyone starts!

If a few thousand boycotted a match, then the message may start to get across to others at the game who didnt know about it. It could possibly grow as the season goes on. Whether ot not it will work i dont know, and of course for G&H to be forced out someone else has to come in and buy the club. Im not sure there is someone to do that.

fill the club shop a couple of hours before kick off, just stand about, or sit on the floor. dont buy anything, but they wont be able to get yopu out or let other people in. a total boycott of all merchandise sold in the ground, programmes, drinks, scran, even the bookies inside the ground, boycott the lot. get it a load of publicity, and get everyone involved. leaflet people going into the ground, get the fanzines involved, the websites, but a full page ad in the echo and write it up like an article.
