Do nothing Rafa, sell no one, bid for no one. Any bid will be jumped on by Man City or Real Madrid and they will offer 50% more. Let them bait each other to the £100m mark and then when they have spent their load, pick up what's left. If we don't get the Villa's or the Silva's so be it, we have a f***ing good squad. It's madness out there at the moment.

I think this start to the transfer window was always on the cards. City have been itching to splash the cash since the Arabs took over, and January was never going to allow for those type of signings. Real and Perez needed to make a few huge annoucements after what Barca have achieved.

I think we should just sign one player. Sell Babel, Dossena, Voronin and replace them with one special player. My pick is Villa

Yes, there is certainly no rush we have all summer.

In the past Rafa might have wanted to be pro active, to beat our rivals to signatures. However Valencia will wait until Real make a bid as they know they are more likely to bid more than we will and they need the money.

No panic, we just have to be patient.

IO think City are being smart. Most if not all other clubs will be busy arranging banking facilities and headroom to make down-payments as well as finalising wage and transfer budgets and who can leave before securing signings. City can use this traditional lull to get to the likes of Barry and throw money at the situation before anyone else has their full s*** together, they have the financial power to do things very quickly, it's probably more potent right now, at this hour, than the actual amounts they can spend.

Maybe, they offered £32m for Tevez last week as well and let us not for get £100m for Kaka in January.

They can also simply offer cash, not installments. We can't and few can.

They still spent £80 million

According to RAWK, yes he did. According to the oracle that is the Mail, yes he did

According to his wiki page..."With Sturridge's contract due to expire in June 2009, contract talks between the player and Manchester City attracted press attention, speculating on Sturridge's wage demands" and he is still with Man City. Although, until July he would be....

the type of player that is going to sign for City is the type of player we don't need, whatever they might say about being part of a great project etc. etc.. its about being offered wages they simply couldn't get elsewhere. I certainly would question the motivation and ambition of a player close to 30 that chooses a team not even in Europe when there are top 4 teams interested in them.

Personally i think a summer in which we sign Silva and maybe a couple of fringe players like Distin and sold nobody significant would be a good summer.

We have a few young players like Insua, N'gog, nemeth, pacheco that can step up and fill in some squad positions.

We should approach City about buying Gareth Barry off them for £18 million

And then we can sign Robbie Keane and Rafa's plan will finally have come together.

Seems to me a good summers business will be holding on to Alonso and Mascherano.

Tuncay and Johnson would be good. Dont think we're gonna see a big marquee signing like Silva or Villa.

how do you reconcile that with our preferred formation, other than re-programming Torres? (which may be a good idea anyway)

If all 3 are fit at the same time, then play 4-4-2, but seeing as that's about as likely as everton winning the CL it'd involve very little messing around.

it's about loving a player; make them feel wanted by you & allow no-one else to turn their head.

I do wonder whether Barry's agent came to us & we said 'no ta' that's why he went to City.

I think nearer the truth is that we said 'First choice CM is no longer available, we only have a share of LM, LB and CM to offer at this time' and he thought f*** that I'm off to be first choice at City who are threatening to spend big on quality players and they will pay me £100k as well. Can't blame him to be honest.

a lack of squad depth is what got us into trouble this season and where would you play villa (even though he's going to Real)?

to break up the gerrard/torres partnership would be foolish beyond words. We have a first 11 that are strong enough to push for the title but with Chelsea, utd and arsenal set to strengthen over the summer with top signings it does hurt to think that we wont be able to ... however, this is the time to get the players they arent after. Get the squad players who have failed at the lower clubs but who would also push for a place in the starting lineup if on form. that si what we need, not villa.

Owen, mcGeedy or Duff and leave it at that i say.

They're not good enough or they're not fit enough to make a valuable contribution

I think that is the truth, we effectively said he'd have to displace Xabi or Mash on merit and he didn't have the bottle to try... especially in a WC year ( where England will go out in the QF's) Reminds me so much of Owen does that
