Well posted. You've just reminded of me of thoughts I had during and after the game.

 

He was very, very disciplined I thought. Massive contrast to last season when Rafa pulled him off.

For me, the main reason Everton never got a foothold in the game. He was always available for passes and stamped his class on the game with almost every touch. Its like his confidence bred confidence in Xabi and from there we controlled the game.

Fair shout, very composed and much less the pripheral figure he can be when in central midfield of a 2.

Truly class player though, even his average games are better than most players blinding performances.

Agreed, said it in the MOM thread - how anyone who saw the game couldn't put Stevie as man of the match is beyond me, he was magnificent - the grease in our cogs all afternoon.

They didn't even have the "they may be better than us but we can still try to maim them" approach that you often get from then.

Stevie has the quality to be able to play one touch football no matter how difficult the ball is he's getting.

Andy Grey said that despite what mere mortals might think the 5 man midfield Everton put out was a really attacking set up. Because they have midfielders who love to get forward
