What a central midfielders performance that was...

Up there with the best.

I couldn't see a thread anywhere else but he was outstanding without scoring/setting people up.

Quality quality performance

Well posted. You've just reminded of me of thoughts I had during and after the game.

He was very, very disciplined I thought. Massive contrast to last season when Rafa pulled him off.

For me, the main reason Everton never got a foothold in the game. He was always available for passes and stamped his class on the game with almost every touch. Its like his confidence bred confidence in Xabi and from there we controlled the game.

how so ?

the criticism of not being controlled and calm, he had a couple of decent runs, however, how many times did he get infront of the front 2?

none

Was talking to a blue who went to the gamne on Saturday night and he said "the only reason Gerrard was s*** today was that Feliani had him in his pocket and didnt allow him any time on the ball"

Fair shout, very composed and much less the pripheral figure he can be when in central midfield of a 2.

Truly class player though, even his average games are better than most players blinding performances.

actually, I talked at one on the train and he was sound, saying they got what they deserved, keeper didnt make a save and Moyes must play 2 upfront at home.

Agreed, said it in the MOM thread - how anyone who saw the game couldn't put Stevie as man of the match is beyond me, he was magnificent - the grease in our cogs all afternoon.

Well, to be fair it doesn't mean you're an idiot to put the man who scored both goals down as MOM

As feeble as I have seen everton that

They didn't even have the "they may be better than us but we can still try to maim them" approach that you often get from then.

They just stood there and waited.

Andy Grey said that despite what mere mortals might think the 5 man midfield Everton put out was a really attacking set up. Because they have midfielders who love to get forward
