Gunga Din Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 not much you can really say, disapointing for a half hour before we scored at halftime, decent 2nd half , 5-0 pretty much par for the course, thought Luton put up a good show and Gerrard stood out. extremely disappointed by the lack of pyromaniacs outside the Kop pre match, not a burning effigy to be seen. Rafa got great support which was good to see. would have liked to have seen Kuyt get a goal, but it wasnt to be.
anfieldgaz Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 (edited) yeah i think it was one of those games! where we were dammed if we lossed and dammed if we never won by 7/8.(by the media that is) I thought Arbeloa/Pennant looks like it could work. Great goals by stevie. And Carragher jnr had number 9 on his back.............lol. Edited January 15, 2008 by anfieldgaz
psl Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I remember Arbeloa and Pennant playing well together when we beat Arsenal 4-1 at Anfield last year. The couple of flicks leading up to Crouch's first stick in the memory. Aurelio did well at left back that day also.

anfieldgaz Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I have to say iam likeing Arbeloa at R/B more and more ahead of Finnan.
anfieldgaz Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 aye, one of those that if we hammer them, they're s***, if we dont, we're s***. yep sums it up!
Gunga Din Posted January 15, 2008 Author Posted January 15, 2008 I have to say iam likeing Arbeloa at R/B more and more ahead of Finnan. i'm not, and never have been overly convinced by Arbeloa. i just think he lacks strength and gets caught out of position a bit too often. better going forward than finnan, but Finnan is the better defender

dorgie Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 i'm not, and never have been overly convinced by Arbeloa. i just think he lacks strength and gets caught out of position a bit too often. better going forward than finnan, but Finnan is the better defender Arbeloa is very poor in dealing with crosses/high balls from the opposite wing where the winger is coming in behind him to challenge him. He seems incapable of getting off the ground and he has yet to learn how to hold the player off, even if he's not going to win the header.
Boca Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Arbeloa was absolute gash against Middlesbrough, albeit playing out of position, and was decent tonight. Finnan is still a better defender than him but hopefully Arbeloa will develop some more.
Paddy 66 Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Extremely disappointed by the lack of pyromaniacs outside the Kop pre match, not a burning effigy to be seen.BURN SEAN DUNDEE or perhaps that happened by accident on the way to the ground
Guest RedLegend Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I have to say iam likeing Arbeloa at R/B more and more ahead of Finnan. I'm not convinced about his defending at all.
Guest prophet Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I have to say iam likeing Arbeloa at R/B more and more ahead of Finnan.
Mike Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I have to say iam likeing Arbeloa at R/B more and more ahead of Finnan. i think arbeloa is weak. don't rate him.
Cam Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Arbeloa is okay as cover for RB & LB and as 6th choice emergency CB. But I've never understood the hype on here. He's far behind Finnan and even Riise at fullback. Finnan is getting on and a longterm replacement does need to be brought in by the summer but Arbeloa ain't it. Bring in a first-choice one, perhaps a leftback too, and keep Arbeloa in the squad. If only for the novelty value of how my mind's ear hears Easton announce his name before each kick-off: Alblahblah Blahblahblahblah.
MFletcher Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Arbeloa is very solid going forward. He could improve his defending, but he is certainly a lot more comfortable in the opposition half than Finnan.
melia Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Arbeloa is very solid going forward. He could improve his defending, but he is certainly a lot more comfortable in the opposition half than Finnan. yet Finnan is a great crosser of the ball with either foot.
floyd the barber Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 arbeloa was excellent up till a few weeks bk, he picked up a knock then came bk in and played center back......and has been completely off the pace since alongside torres, he was my player of the season up till then.....
jon_hall Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 yet Finnan is a great crosser of the ball with either foot. Doesn't do it enough. Finnan to me seems a very good player but another that hasn't reached his potential. One of many we have in that aspect.
Redkop Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I think this season has been the worst one so far for Finnan..... he has been awful at times.
Mike Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 arbeloa was excellent up till a few weeks bk, he picked up a knock then came bk in and played center back......and has been completely off the pace since alongside torres, he was my player of the season up till then..... better than gerrard or mascherano?
Gunga Din Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 better than gerrard or mascherano? mental isnt it. one word to describe Arbeloa. Average
Hassony Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 mental isnt it. one word to describe Arbeloa. Average decent player for what we paid for him, but I agree, he (or finnan)shouldn't be our first choice right back next season
koppper Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 BURN SEAN DUNDEE or perhaps that happened by accident on the way to the ground Smoking can kill.......especially next to a 50 foot paraffin soaked flag. Seriously though - what was the support for Rafa like? Anything at the match about G+H?
McBain Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 mental isnt it. one word to describe Arbeloa. Average Surprised somewhat at the praise he gets. He isn't great at anything, just decent at most things. A good back up but first choice? Not for me
