Daniel Pacheco & Gerardo Bruna

Has anyone watched these two play yet? I'm keen to know what they are like already, despite their age.

Good enough to see them in the first team squad in a couple of years??

Pacheco looks amazing, along with a few others from that age group.

Interesting snippet I saw last week - Fabregas has been at Arsenal for two years longer than Benitez has been at Liverpool. Puts in context the time it takes to bring through these youngsters to first team level - we're only at the start of a process.

I think Cesc came in late summer 03 and Rafa in summer 04?

Anyway Cesc made his first team debut a couple of months after arriving at Arsenal so Wenger nor the gunners can claim to have brought him through.....no wonder Barca were slightly p!ssed when he left them.

Seems like there is a bit of talent at the Academy this year. I've noticed that Nathan Eccleston and David Amoo have been scoring freely this season too.

And not just in my FM either...;)

I've been off work for the past two weeks and have seen some highlights on LFC TV.

They do look good though from what I've seen.

Madrid Livid Over Liverpool Raid

Real Madrid are still steaming over the loss of the crown jewel of their youth development to Liverpool.

Argentinean teenage sensation Gerardo Bruna has been earmarked as the next Lionel Messi, and was recently successfully courted by Liverpool’s Spanish boss Rafa Benitez.

Former Real Madrid star Michel, for one, has gone on record as saying that the 16-year-old made a mistake, while admonishing the Reds for their opportunism.

“I was very surprised when Bruna left because he had been with us for three years and as soon as he was about to mature, Liverpool took him from us,” hissed the Real Madrid youth coach.

“That is what happens all the time in England. When they see someone they like, they just take him.

“They sign the boy to a professional contract, make all sorts of promises and then put him in their reserves and never give him a competitive game.

“How many young players taken by Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have actually played for their first team and how many have returned?”

Arsenal ace Cesc Fabregas is a sterling example of the ‘buy them young’ policy gone right, of course, while Gerard Pique is enjoying steady developments under Sir Alex Ferguson’s expert tutelage, having been snapped up from Barca's academies.

One would also be wise to keep in mind how many South American sides have levied the exact same accusations against Barcelona, Real Madrid and the like. That fact of the matter is that clubs are powerless to do anything if a player wishes to leave, be it Brazil for Spain, or Spain's academies for England.

Pot, kettle , black there by Madrid.

How many young un's did they bring they through when they filled their team with fading Galacticos?

I actually think its a fair point. How would we have felt had Fowler, Owen, Carragher and Gerrard been poached by Barcelona when they were 16?

Personally, I think players should not be allowed to change teams from 12-18, with the club recieving bonuses based on games, caps and potential future transfer value (such as value of contract at 25 for example)

The problem for Spanish clubs is their employment law. Players are not allowed to sign professional contracts until they are 18. This is why so many players are brought over, aged 15/16/17. Clubs in the UK are exploiting this loophole.

However, I am pretty sure that Arsenal have had to pay approx £2,5 million compensation to Barcelona, after they signed Fran Merida, so maybe the tables are turning slightly.
