cymrococh Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Always good to see a fat lad be great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUmSwyz-k8o
nvdm Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Had that extra 'time' on the ball (to use a cliche) that players like Zidane and Maradona did. One of my favourite players.
Chili Palmer Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Always liked watching him play, pity he ruined that by being a prick as a pundit.
Stevie H Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 borderline genius. anyone know where that music comes from?
stressederic Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 borderline genius. anyone know where that music comes from? It's original form is Lux Aterna from Requiem for a Dream but the version you heard was rewritten for the trailers of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and is called Requiem for a Tower.
Duncan Disorderly Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 The guy was world class, no doubt about it. He could have played for any great team, anywhere in the world, but; fair play to him; he stayed with Soton for the duration.Sion`s right about him never really getting a chance to show his class with Engerland (not that I care, but he deserved to shine on that stage).I too, loved watching him play, just made it all look soooo easy.

Cobs Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 the fact he didn't play in Europe and hardly ever on the International stage stops him being World Class, that's all. Great footballer. Gets called lazy, like Hoddle before him because you didn't see him charging round the pitch kicking people. It's like calling Roy Keane not world class for never scoring 20 goals in a season.
AE Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 he was a lazy c***. too lazy and selfish to ever be called world class in fact. amazing ability and technique but his idleness stopped him being world class. Spot on.I can remember watching him play for England against Italy and his lack of fitness etc was the main thing that stood. If his natural talent had been given to a "worker" like Owen etc then they would have been a great IMO.He was a joy to watch and could do so much, shame he was a lazy git as well.
Cobs Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 shouldn't judge him on one of 2 or 3 games he played for England, about 3 years past his peak and about 5 after he should have been playing for his country In the early to mid 90s Carlton Palmer, Andy Sinton, Neil Webb and Geoff Thomas were getting capped while Le Tissier was banging in 20 goals a season and we couldn't qualify for USA 94. Once Gascgoine lost his marbles at he 91 Cup Final Le Tissier should have been an England regular.

Stevie H Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 le tiss was lazy all round though. he knew that the soton team was built around him and that he didn't need to work hard, that wasn't why he was in the side. i think he was lazy because he stayed at saints and never tested himself at the top level.
Cobs Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 He was happy where he was and remained loyal to one team. Shameful in this day and age, i know. He should have got Eric Hall to act as agent for him and sorted out a Monster, Monster deal to Blackburn.

His loyalty quality was great. His "waste" of talent wasn't.Like Collymore he could have been a far far better / more influencial player than he was.
Stevie H Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 totally different to collymore. fair play to him for his loyalty like, but he he never found out just how good he *could* have been. amazing talent though.
Zoob Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 One of my favourite non-Liverpool players. He scored soooo many fantastic goals. Would have liked to see him at a higher level, but would have hated it had he gone to the Mancs or some other nasty team. The goal he scored against Newcastle in 93/94 (3:50 on the youtube clip) was just phenomenal.
