Had one chance and scored twice. I wish we were that clinical

Played to ya. And as with 2005, the better team lost

And despite my magnanimity, I really think it stinks you were in the competition in the 1st place

Players like Maldini deserve all the medals they get. Nobody seems to like Inzaghi, though

We were excellent and made Milan look second best for so long. It was always going to be difficult chasing the game and they scored the second because our defense was so tired.

You win some, you lose some... Rafa will be back with his red men :metal:

Tbh the reffing was just awful. We were on the wrong side of a lot of calls, but at the same time our goal was offside imo. It was just bad, and a let down for what is supposed to be the biggest game in European football.

And Kaka was onside in the second half when put through.

After what we did to them in Istanbul, we can't really complain.

They were very ordinary tonight (unlike 2005) and they were there for the taking if Rafa would have been less cautious.

That's the most gutwrenching thing about tonight. :(

Rafa had the "best player in the world" shackled tonight, we had the lions share of the play and went behind to what was effectively a deflection, right on half time. We lack quality in the wide areas, we haven't been able to afford to put that right.

Tactically, his starting line up did well. As soon as Masherano left the field so we could attack them more, kaka had the space to open us up. And the rest is History. Roll on next season.

With all due respect, that's absolute b******s.

The reason they looked ordinary was because Rafa stifled them in midfield, closed them down all over the park from the off.

Attacking in numbers and leaving gaps at the back would have played right into their hands, just like ManUre did.

It's my own opinion FFS!!! We needed two up front tonight, even if it meant Rafa switching to 3-5-2.

What was the point in playing Pennant if Crouch didn't start?

There was obviously no point in playing Pennant was there, cause it's not like he caused them any problems at all in the 1st half.

3-5-2...you're having a laugh, they would have mullered us.

Rafa threw caution to the wind when he took off Mascherano with 15 minutes to go. We had to get a goal so Mascherano was chosen over Alonso (who I thought was a bit hit and miss tonight). Unfortunately, the gamble did not pay off because it gave Kaka space he had been denied all evening. Even then I thought Riise should have at least tried to get closer to Inzaghi rather than just standing still. It might haved forced Inzaghi to shoot earlier and give Reina a better chance of saving it.

The game is over, we lost, Milan won, congratulations to them but I just get the feeling that this is the start of something special for us too.

Good Thread.

Well in AC Milan. There were pinned back for the whole game and uncoiled twice to score both times.

We on the otherhand spend the night like a drunk at the local funfair shooting gallery. Very wastful with loads of chances.

The top ten positives to come back from the whole season

10: We've paid back lady luck / destiny for the mirical of Istanbul

09: We battered a team that battered united

08: We reached another final without a 20 goal a season striker

07: We knocked out the holders of the cup Barcelona

06: We topped our group in the qualifiers

05: We have put ourselves firmly back on the map as a club

04: We got some brilliant players this year with big LFC futures

03: We didn't loose on penalties after being 3 up at half time.

02: New Owners / New Stadium / New Begining

01: We knocked out Chelsea on the semi .... mwha wha wha wha

Wasn't the best performance from Milan, but by the same token if we'd produced a performance like that and won, we'd be saying how professional and restrained it was.

They probably shouldn't have been in the competition in the first place, but that's got more to do with their board than their players. They've got the best player in the world at the moment in Kaka and Maldini is a complete legend, so I can think of far worse people to be celebrating tonight.

We got it tactically correct tonight. What are you on about. We just came up short in finishing.

Said to my mate 5 minutes before they scored "it could be just like 2005 when the better team on the night loses".

And so it turned out.

What can you do? Call it karma or fate or whatever?

First goal was handball, should have been disallowed. Score should have been 1-1 after 90 mins and we were in the ascendancy and would have nicked the winner in extra time.

And yes, I have alot of time for a professional like Maldini but Inzaghi is just Danish royalty.

i have stayed away from the PC since 3.45pm this afternoon as I have tried to take this defeat well and accept the loss for what it was.

Milan were never the better team, but they took their 2 gilt edged chances and we didn't.

failiure to turn superiority into wins has plagued us since the start of this season and it bit us in the a$$ today.

not sure what Rafa was up to leaving Zenden on past the first 30 minutes, he has no pace, he cannot cross the ball and probably needs directions to find his own red shirt on his peg. i could see it, many on here could see it and so could the eejit Tommy Smyth on ESPN.

there will be a clear out of some players and it is my hope that they are replaced by at least one quality striker who can put away the chances we know we are capable of creating, and a left back who is capable of more than hoofing the ball upfield or shooting with his head down.

i was disappointed we lost today, but we have progressed as a club under Rafa. it's now up to him and the owners to put together a team to challenge for honors again next season.
