An observation about Arsenal yesterday

Some of the players they have are so strong it's unbelieveable...that Diaby is a monster....Thier physical presence alone could beat any team...

I went on an a*** forum yesterday. Amazing how similar it was to here

"We can't score to save our lives"

"We need new strikers"

"We need established stars not youngsters"

"We love wenger but we're s*** and he needs to fix it fast"

The difference in individual pace and strength was clear, but they've not been the same since they lost Vieira's 'stop f***ing about now and win it' mentality

their plan a is pass it around and try and find fullbacks bombing forwards to pass it into the box for a simple finish. like when baptista should have done better.

their plan b is pass it around and try and find fullbacks bombing forwads to apss it into the box for a simple finish. like when baptista should have done better.

their plan b should be smack the ball to Adebayor/Diaby and get some of their pacy wrigglers picking up on the scrapsw

If they are not careful they could well find themselves in a similar situation to the end of last season - last game and fighting for the fourth CL spot.

They lost some very influential players last year in Bergkamp, Viera, and Pires. I don't think they realized just how much they would miss them in their haste to bring in the youngsters. The likes of Ljunberg and Henry have been very quiet this season also. I think the transition has almost been too drastic.

but they now have a confidence crisis and injuries - we are in a better state than them

It's also a big 'If'

They win their game in hand they're a point above us. Not like we're much better off than them.

'cept for the little matter that we're still in the CL, and therefore still have a major trophy to play for............. :)

True, though I was (meant to be) replying to Figaro saying they were going to end up scrabbling for a CL spot.

If they had more shots from outside the box when the opportunity is there they'd be up there for the title, but they always try and find a killer pass after a killer pass, which would frustrate the life out of me if we did that.

I dont get this - how can a side be so far off the pace in the league because they don't score enough goals from outside the area??

Their midfield just isn't right. They've got good players throughout but Hleb/Rosicky aren't Pires and Ljungberg and the trio that played on saturday are all very young and very inexperienced. I think they could do with someone more direct on the wing but who isn't going to wait 2-3 years before peaking.

If you watch Arsenal play at full strength, they have many opportunities to shoot from outside the box, who knows, even if they did shoot from outside the box maybe they wouldn't go in, but there are so many times that the chance to shoot is there and they try a pass too many and the play is broken down.

It's mentality, you have to remember the point of the game.

Reminds me of when I was 14 playing Cricket, up to that age, our team were all very nice looking well coached players, with fantastic technique, but we just didn't score heavily or quick enough. We moved up a year, and our new coach took us aside after one game and told in no uncertain terms that the point of the game is to score f***ing runs, not get points for artistic merit, hit the thing off the f***ing ground. Point taken, winning team, winning players

It could be that they have a strategy of continuing to work on that until they are so good at it that it doesn't break down - at least not as often. If he can recapture the level they were at in 2002 they'll be unstoppable.

How many goals get scored outside the box anyway? To me their problem is that when they're not playing well they get too narrow and Wenger's attempts at using Rosicky and Hleb to replace Ljungberg and Pires aren't working, that and the midfield (bar Gilberto) is too young. On saturday Denilson, Fabregas and Diaby played in midfield with an average age of about 19. Against gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano they've got no chance.

The thing is, if they shot more from outside the box or (gasp!) played longer more direct balls a bit more often, then it would give them more space for their intricate passing moves to actually work.
