Or what do any of you know about him. He got another hat-trick today. He really seems to have an amazing ability to score goals.

Could he be the hard-working, back-tracking, goalscoring machine the Rafa is looking for?

Huntelaar is hard-working and does back-tracking? I don't know about that...but the strike rate is phenomenal. I'd take him. It's those not-special-looking (i.e. not really quick, strong, or wildly skilled) jammy RVN types that can do the most damage.

That's what I was wondering CX. I've never seen him play, but he seems to score loads. I think that back-tracking seems to be a pre-requisite for Rafa and I was wondering if he does.

In the context of Kuyt, I'm sure he's seen him enough and has played with him up front for Holland. Has he ever been interviewed and been asked about him?

I used to buy Huntelaar the last time i played Champ Manager about 4 or 5 years ago. He was good in that aswell.

Maybe Rafa is like Peter Reid and conducts all his transfers based on Rothmans books and pc games ?

Nah, I doubt it.

My guess is that he sends scouts out to see him play, watches lots of game tapes etc and really does him homework on everyone he buys.

It makes sense for a multi-million pound investment...

But, who knows, maybe you're right.

A student from Cambridge University wrote a thesis called 'The Pursuit of Aesthetics, Excellence and Logistical Dynamics in the Post-Human Environment' in 2004 and interviewed all 92 of the managers in the English football league and noted that the Premiership managers, on the whole, had a 0.9% larger thumb size (in ratio with body mass) compared to the managers in the lower leagues, except Ian Holloway. He concluded that the use of sophisticated computer 'games' gives the top managers an 8% advantage over everyone else. Not many people know that.

Didn't he also ascertain that David Moyes used the computer a lot, but had a smaller thumb size and a stickier screen?

Weird title.

Anyway, I hope we get Huntelaar. He's my number one choice and I've hardly seen him play but f*** it. I'm throwing my weight behind him. I love the reports and he's got goals in them there boots.

I'd tend to be a little cautious about goalscoring records in Holland. Kuyt, who most people don't seem to consider a 'natural goalscorer' here scored absolutely stacks of goals over there, he even won the European golden boot.

Having said that, I do rate Huntelaar as a poacher - he doesn't do that much back-tracking but for me that's a positive in the next striker we sign. We've got enough workers already, what we need is someone who is going to be standing in the six yard box when the ball is pulled back across goal, but who has a fair bit of pace to get behind the opposition as well.

What I'm trying to say is yes, he's the type of striker we need and is a young lad with loads of potential, but I wouldn't want to pay a huge amount for him because looking at the likes of Kuyt and Kezman, scoring goals over there is much easier and Huntelaar doesn't do that much else so he could fail in England.

I think ultimately for the kind of price we'd be looking at I'd probably look elsewhere...

Do we need a hardworking striker who backtracks? I think we have that in Kuyt. Alongside him we need someone who could replace what a striker like Fowler or Owen could do i.e. be at the end of moves and score loads of goals.

I like the look of Huntelaar, plus he doesn't seem to be a 'golden boy' type player. Would fit in well.

A couple of windows ago wasn't his name all over the place for megabucks? Makes you wonder why one of the big clubs has not picked him up?

That's probably cocaine. Fat Freddie told them he wanted to be high in the table this year and it's the only way they can oblige.

is kuyt conducting our transfers or something?

He really is a workaholic.

I hear he cleans the bogs too in his spare time.
