If his knees are back in full working order, why offload him at all?

I can't see him getting an opportunity in the first team though.

Crouch, Bellamy, Fowler and even Pongolle are ahead of him.

If he does get the opportunity, it would be better for him to move on and play first team football elsewhere.

I hope there is a sell on percentage for us in this deal.

Aye not bad for a £126 million outlay and about 50 new players

A couple of worthington cups, an FA cup and the Uefa cup

Bring him back from Lyon ;)

PS Sorry I forgot, we started counting freindlies as trophies when houllier arrived so a few charity shields/super cup etc etc as well

They're not friendlies and you know it

The club has always listed these trophies in its "roll of honour" and is rightfully proud of them - especially the UEFA Super Cup

You'd be happy winning the Super Cup each year...it'd mean you'd already won the CL or UEFA Cup :D

And I have to check your net spend figures cos I think they are a bit dodgy so I will have a look and get back to you on that

I'll give you a helping hand Huyton. According to lfchistory.net...............

Gerard Houllier bought 40 players for £125,400,000

Gerard Houllier sold 48 players for £60,675,000

Net Spending = £64,725,000

Mr Hodgson's analysis was spot on. Suprised me as well, but £11million per season brought 4 major trophies.

no surprises he's left. he was obviously never that highly rated by rafa. the last time i saw him play was a reserve game against everton when the ressies used to play in chester. whilst he looked quite good he never looked good enough to break ino the first team. zack whitbread partnered him in central defence that night and looked much better and as we know whitbread never made the grade either.

Tanking of Houllier - he's at it again. Dunno how much the "New Deschamps" cost, but he's a bargain. Maybe Rangers will be interested in the old "New Desailly" to go with him.

Although he was a bargain.

Sort of

"He has everything a modern player needs to succeed," said Houllier. "He is quick, he is tough, he can pass and he has a very good shot which is sometimes under-rated.

"He is more defence-minded than, say, [Emmanuel] Petit but the way he reads the game reminds me of Didier Deschamps. Can he become a full internationalist? Oh yes. He already has some caps at under-21 level and I'm sure he will continue his progression under Paul."
