Cisse Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/...rg_Kompany.html
IgPig Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/...rg_Kompany.html Been the next big thing for a few years hasn't he. One of the ones that comes up in summer transfer threads and the like. "we must sign Kompany as he is the best player ever, better than Carra or Hyypia, much faster etc etc etc"
Leo No.8 Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Yes - he was a popular name around the time when every gobschite thought saying we needed a centre-half with pace made him a football genius. Get rid of the defensive rock Hyypia, bring in any Tom, Dick or Harry who can run fast. F*cking genius alright.
Benzo-13 Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 That Hamburg are a great side to watch... Full of Forum lore players now... Van Buyten, De Jong, VdV and now Kompany..
Maldini Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Brilliant player, wonder where Hamburg have gotten all the money from in recent years. £5.5m is a bargain though.
Guest Cardie Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Absolute steal. Fair play whoever is in charge of Hamburgs transfers is doing a good job, they seem to buy players at just the right time for bargain fee's.
CarraLegend Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) Cant say the Belgian League is ever on in England so dont know enough about him, he's obviously got his reputation from somewhere though. If he was as amazing as made out I thought he'd of made a better move than that, it's not like he'd gone off the rails like VDV or anything. Then again, they are in the CL I suppose. Bayern Munich within a year it is then if he plays well. Edited June 9, 2006 by CarraLegend
Ripley Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Bayern Munich within a year it is then if he plays well.Hamburg will have a seriously good chance of the Bundesliga next year.
sbaros Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Don't remember a 20m price tag but I seem to remember RPM(or whatever it's called) having first option on him, and they were supposed to have first option on Tevez, Kompany and other hot prospects, and I'm pretty sure Abromavich was supposed to be involved with this RPM group.. remember it being discussed alot here last year.. Still, 5.5M for him is a steal, from what I've seen he could become one of the world's best, been a Belgium international for years, played in the champions league and been one of Anderlecht's best players in the league..
Benzo-13 Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Hamburg will have a seriously good chance of the Bundesliga next year. Agree.. If they make the Champions League they'll surprise a few too.. Really great side to watch.. Dortmund are another to watch for De Bundesliga next year. Have signed Valdez, Pienaar and Frei.
New York Red Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Vanden Borre is the kid to get from that team. He'll be a really good one.
nvdm Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 He won Anderlecht's player of the year, Belgian player of the year and Belgian young player of the year in one season, I believe.
Guest JamesA Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 The mancs have been tracking him since he was a youth player, but his father did not want him to leave playing in Belgium until he was older. More recently Chelsea joined in tracking him, of course. He has always had an excellent reputation and I am surprised by this move and the amount he has gone for.
Leo No.8 Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) Who is the current manager at Hamburg? Clearly doing a great job whoever it is. Although unless his name is Hans Hamburger it isn't anywhere near as good as that of Bundesliga legend Wolfgang Wolf who managed Wolfsburg not that long ago... Edited June 9, 2006 by Leo No.8

Although unless his name is Hans Hamburger it isn't anywhere near as good as that of Bundesliga legend Wolfgang Wolf who managed Wolfsburg not that long ago... Hamburg seem to buy their players very quietly, hearing nothing till it's a done deal. That's how they're getting class young players.
CarraLegend Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 He won Anderlecht's player of the year, Belgian player of the year and Belgian young player of the year in one season, I believe. Didn't Babayaro also win a s***load of awards out there when he was young?
_00_deathscar Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 t's not like he'd gone off the rails like VDV or anything. Then again, they are in the CL I suppose. He's one of the reasons they're in the Champions League next year. Looks like all he needed was a change of scenery after all ... perhaps Torres needs the same? (seems to have cooled down last year).

Sion Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) You monitor them closely do you As a matter of fact yes as my brother in law supports them. Dirty German Edited June 9, 2006 by Sion

Ex-quality ex-East German who played for Lazio.
Guest RedLegend Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 Brilliant player, wonder where Hamburg have gotten all the money from in recent years. £5.5m is a bargain though. I'll never forget Larsson giving him an absolute roasting when Anderlecht went to Celtic a couple of seasons ago. To be fair he was probably about 12 then.
Jezzman Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 They've done some really good business this Summer has Bayern Munich. Podolski for 6M£, Van Buyten for 6,5M£ and now Vincent Kompany for 5,5M£... 18M£ total for those three players that's good business I have to admit, although I do hate the Munich club with a passion...
