Nebraska Red Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 World Cup-Phil Neville replaces Reo-Coker on England stand-by LONDON, May 22 (Reuters) - Midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has withdrawn from England's World Cup stand-by list and has been replaced by Phil Neville, British media reported on Monday. West Ham United's Reo-Coker suffered a knock in training earlier in the day and his place on the list of five reserve players has now been taken by Everton utility man Neville. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=reu-...uters&type=lgns Neville is the best he can do to replace a player like Reo-Coker? SGE is just taking the pi$$ out of the England fans now.
smithdown Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 LOL! Have to hand it to Sven he must be having a right laugh.
The Hitman Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Barton and Nolan must be going nuts..Joey Barton's twice the player Neville is. Neville's got the experience I guess though, that probably counts for a lot at this stage. He still won't go though.
Benitez Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Barton and Nolan must be going nuts.. Nolan at least! Seems that if a manager whines enough about a player, Eriksson will pick him in the end.
Benzo-13 Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Nolan at least! Seems that if a manager whines enough about a player, Eriksson will pick him in the end. Especially if there's another moaner missing his brother about too.. Joey Barton's twice the player Neville is. Neville's got the experience I guess though, that probably counts for a lot at this stage. He still won't go though. Walcott was hardly experienced though. SGE is having the proverbial laugh at everyone with that choice.Should've called up Ashton.
The Hitman Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Walcott was hardly experienced though. SGE is having the proverbial laugh at everyone with that choice.Should've called up Ashton.Yeah, but he knows he needs some players with experience,if just to appease the press, fans etc. You can choose one or two wildcards, not a whole squadsworth.
Benzo-13 Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Yeah, but he knows he needs some players with experience,if just to appease the press, fans etc. You can choose one or two wildcards, not a whole squadsworth. I will be surprised if Walcott even gets a game in the World Cup.
smithdown Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 What's neville's experience? Giving away late penno's for ingerlund and standing round this season in bucharest watching the goals fly in. Brilliant stuff by Sven. Go on, pick Big Sam as team psychologist for the WC, I dares ya!
The Hitman Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 What's neville's experience?Unfortunately he's got 52 c***ing caps.
smithdown Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Unfortunately he's got 52 c***ing caps. Could you imagine Scolari giving him his 53rd? This is all a wind up though right? He's not really in with a chance of playing in the WC is he? Come on, stop messin
Guest Red Mist Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Sven really can't go soon enough. I'd be delighted if the FA sack him now and let McClaren take over at the World Cup.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 what use is experience if you're s*** though?
The Hitman Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 what use is experience if you're s*** though? The thinking is that he won't go anyway,he's not in the squad,he's in the "reserve" list. He's not going to go. I don't agree with the selection, but I can see why he's chosen him.The safe option.
smithdown Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 At this late stage he is probably the only english player left who isnt plastered in a bar right now
Guest Scot Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 This is absolutely brilliant. How much are they paying this t**?
Guest Red Mist Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 It can be a lot worse. He could be our club captain...
Hassony Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 At this late stage he is probably the only english player left who isnt plastered in a bar right nowpaul merson is waiting for the phone call then
drdooom Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Barton and Nolan are midfielders, not "utility men". That's why.
Lee W Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 (edited) This is absolutely brilliant. How much are they paying this t**? Believe his last 'golden' contract was 4.5m Great British Pounds per annum. Eriksson must have missed Neville's gem of a tackle on Rui Costa in the Euro 2004 quarter-final Edited May 23, 2006 by Lee W
Gilps Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Barton and Nolan are midfielders, not "utility men". That's why. But he's not replaced Hargreaves in the squad, he's replaced Reo-Coker on the standby list. Who is a central midfielder, not a utility player.
John am Rhein Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Neville is the best he can do to replace a player like Reo-Coker? SGE is just taking the pi$$ out of the England fans now. Serves the tw*ts right! Nice one Sven!
Guz Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 England's squad depth, except in central defence is actually quite poor. Given his verstaility and question marks over other player's fitnesses I think it's a logical decision.
