    Stoke Away

he's been isolated and has rarely received the ball to feet. he needs someone up top with him
  2. It was his first full game in well over 6 months, and he didn't really play many reserve matches in that period. He's going to be much, much better than what we saw last night once fitness and sharpness return. He showed enough last night to leave me happy. He was always looking for the ball, he wasn't scared of getting stuck in and although he misplaced some passes, that pass to Benayoun in the second half was sublime. We'll see more of those once he's had a regular run of games. Another positive, and I know this seems small, was his ability to compete for headers from second balls in the middle.
  3. Goal of the decade- Gerrard in the cup final. Although there have been some brilliant teams goals, like the Alonso goal against Arsenal when we won 2-1 and Crouch's goal against West Ham when we won 2-1. win of the decade - Ac Milan in Istanbul worst defeat - Leverkusen away in 2002. Would have played baconface's lot in the semi, at a time when Ged seemed to always get a result against them. Inexplicable decision by Ged in taking off Didi for Smicer cost us that game. I felt sick for days afterwards. best performance- The first half at home to Juve in 2005 and Madrid in 2009. I also really enjoyed the Arsenal match in 2004 when Mellor scored. Gerrard was something else that day. Hamann put in some brilliant performances in our UEFA Cup run too. He was immense against Roma away that year. worst performance - Some of the performances towards the end of Ged's reign were dire. You could pick a few from that spell in the middle of the 2002-2003 season. A midweek game against Fulham which finished 0-0 comes to mind. As does losing against Sunderland in the same season at their place when Wilkinson was in charge. best player - Gerrard worst player- Josemi. A walking disaster. best Anfield atmosphere - v. Chelsea semi final 2005 best non anfield atmosphere ----- best goal scored against us - The Overmars goal for Barca in 2002. funniest momemt - Carragher's interview with Geoff Shreeves. "Bigger than who, Liverpool? You mean more money?" Legend.
  4. That's not funny in the slightest.
  5. A lot of difference, even if N'Gog has impressed.
  6. You need to go through Sky Sports Extra to do the split screen thing.
  7. Don't get me wrong, I think Arshavin is a brilliant player. But I don't think it's a daft generalisation, he is one of the laziest players in the premiership. He doesn't work off the ball at all. And how many players has Benitez signed that are lazy? Babel and Voronin, but I don't think there are many others. It'd be like Wenger signing a player with a poor first touch.
  8. Benitez would never sign a player as lazy as Arshavin, regardless of how brilliant he is.

  10. I wouldn't go that far, he's not that good like.
  11. Anyone who says that Cole is no good doesn't know what they're talking about. He's a class player. Works bloody hard, very strong, good awareness, good touch, good in the air, can shoot off both feet. He gave Skrtel and Carra a torrid time this season. he's a very similar player to Drogba. How anyone can say they're not interested in us signing him is beyond me. Also, he'd be a brilliant partner for Torres.
  12. Jones is clearly not rubbish. Cole would be a brilliant signing.
  13. Really? With the exception of the 2002 World Cup, when has an Asian nation performed well at a World Cup?
  14. Luis Fabiano. His goalscoring ratio has been phenonmenal for Brazil. He could be a decent bet for top scorer. Honduras could be a surprise team. Wilson Palacios is a superb player, but not sure how much a midfield enforcer will shine at the world cup.
  15. I don't have to read that rag to know what his opinions are, he was quoted in numerous other places, but I read it in F365's excellent column, Mediawatch. Of course I'm not suggesting people read it. You know the point I was making. Maybe I should have referred to another rubbish football "expert" who would say Heskey is no good, as there are plenty of them out there.
  16. It's not just about scoring goals though, is it? And N'Gog better than Heskey? No chance. Fair enough the lad has potential and he's scored goals, but I don't care if his goals per game ratio is better than Heskey's.
  17. Yes, but Bent left Spurs because he didn't want to be a back up player and fair play to him. Talking about him being back up to Torres is clearly nonsense, he won't do that. I agree that Bent is class though and I think it was very strange that he was never given a fair chance at Spurs. I remember a game in which he played for Charlton and he gave Hyypia and Carragher a torrid time at Anfield, But back to the Heskey bashing. In a time when most modern footballers are total d1ckheads who are flash, selfish, cheating, inarticulate d1ckheads, Heskey is an example of a good pro who works his socks off. It's such a shame he didn't have more self belief. When we signed him, I thought he was going to be devastating. He was unstoppable at times for us and was a vital part of the 2001 season, but he could have been so much better. He could have been a contender. Rafa would love all of the qualities Heskey has, particularly in the 4-2-3-1 formation. If Heskey is available at a knock-down price in January, Rafa will be near the front of the queue I'm sure.
  18. Oh, and just because he's not performing for Villa isn't conclusive proof that he's no good. The tactically inept mug that is O'Neill doesn't have a clue.
  19. Capello's one of the best managers of the past 20 years. He's picking Heskey ahead of Defoe, Crouch, Carlton Cole and Bent to name a few. He's clearly got more to his game than some here are giving him credit for, likening him to a wardrobe and rubbish like that. He's a good player and people who think he's rubbish don't know what they're talking about. Did Ian Wright's column calling for Defoe to be selected for England sway your thinking?
  20. A mate of mine once worked on the phones at 606 and said that Green's a definite red. He also said after one particular match a while ago in which we had a bad result (I can't remember which), Green had ordered the people on the phones to not let through any callers who wanted to slag off Rafa, as he was so gutted about the result. There's impartiality for you. And he also confirmed that Green's a total n0b.

  24. Cole and Van Nistelrooy both scored a lot of tap ins and scrappy goals, whereas Torres scores beautiful goals.
  25. 43 goals in 63 premier league matches. Ridiculous. I love him.
