To be fair belarus didn't seem like too much of side to me. Game vs Serbia was a fun one to watch, a clinical finish for the first by Berg and then a pentalty goal by him. Seems to have done well in Groningen, however he has failed to impress me the few times he has played in the senior national team. Re Alonso my fear is that Xabi is becoming a very 'special' player for us. It would be hard to find someone else to do what he does to the team now. A new player in his position would almost certainly mean a substantial change in how we play. In many ways it is easier to replace Masch and Gerrard than Xabi - while it would be difficult to find someone just as good as them, in Gerrard's case even impossible but at least we would be able to find people who can fill in their roles as and more easily fit in the team.

It is not really that Johnson's price went down just because they bought Crouch from us previously though... Anyways I'm glad we're paying slightly plus-money for a player that Rafa really wants than less money on someone just to fill up the squad. A sign of our team's strenght.
