  1. In the early 70's, Arsenal came and beat us 2-0 - night match I think - and Alan Ball simply ran the show to an extent I have never seen before or, possibly, since. My (reasonable) Bluenose FiL claimed he was the best he ever saw play for them, and so far ahead of his team mates it wasn't true. The humour factor of his managerial career tends to obscure how good he was as a player. The list of Keepers who had worldies in front of the Kop is a long one, but Pat Jennings stands out. Who was the no-mark at Charlton who scored a hat trick against us, and nothing else of note ever?
  2. The handball not given at Goodison just now can only add to VAR's clown car status this weekend. Almost like the refs have an agenda.
  3. Lana del Rey Joe Scarborough John Lithgow Dave Gorman Sanjeev Bhaskar
  4. More so than Shankly, who supposedly found that part difficult - the team that lost to Watford in the Cup in 1970 was still built around that which had been dominant in 64-66; whereas Paisley was, by all accounts, the hard b*****d who packed them off as soon as, certainly after that experience. (Of course Shankly and Paisley ripped that team up and then built a fantastic and exciting young team that reached the FA Cup Final and won the League in the next 2 years)

  10. City play Hodgson's Palace next week - and Palace will go above them if they win. Strange Times.
  11. Rumours going around that Bramley Moore not viable. We can but hope and laugh.
  12. Well I know Paddy Power can be cringeworthily 'edgy' with their ads, and are bad teds in general, but this tweet made me laugh out loud. https://twitter.com/paddypower/status/1179754683008716801?s=09 "Dele Alli and Jesse Lingard have been left out of the England squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. "There have been some difficult decisions to make," said manager, Gareth Southgate. "But not this one. These lads are f*cking s***e.""

  15. There was a move later in the half when Robbo crossed low and it evaded everyone in the middle - Trent was just a bit wide on the other side of the area or else we could have had perfect symmetry. Although Trent probably didn't want Robbo to have an assist anyway, so held back, just in case.
  16. That would be 18 months then, because last season we played the right way round - that Lloris howler in front of the Kop was in the last minute.
  17. Hwang and Takumi were both really good.

  22. The Argentinian way? Rafa liked the idea of a punch-happy brawler in the squad for 'creative tension', apparently. Pellegrino's role at Valencia, and maybe part of the reason for his move (as well as showing everyone how to do zonal).
  23. Just got a little flick on it

    FSG Watch...

I think being some kind of public figure is a given now for the CE. That he is sometimes cringeworthy (the Napoli hospital being a pretty good counterexample) is by some distance the least of our problems, and even then, we're a long way and time removed from when we did have substantive existential and structural problems. As has been said earlier, Klopp as our primary public face is absolute gold for our image at the moment; the latest article on the Willkmommen thread is positively Shanklyesque in its capacity to motivate.
