I know Harkness was still playing for us after Collymore left in 97 - because having just come back from a devastating broken leg, his ex-teammate Stan nearly did him again with a (very deliberate) shocker at Villa Park. Stretchered off, break suspected, but 'just' ligaments. But no, he wasn't good enough really. And Collymore had previously claimed he had been racially abused by Harkness, (but denied that is why he did him)

Yes, but it's what they would have won. The previous seasons Cup Winners Cup winners had a great tradition of going on to win the European Cup next year; that they were the best team in Europe is proven by how much they did actually win that first year that they weren't in Europe, with Gary Lineker leading the line. Of course the real problem was maintaining that strong team without the pull of Europe. Liverpool, with a longer ban, were reduced to picking up Watford and Oxford Utd's cast-offs.

As soon as you start next season without 3 promoted teams and 3 still there that should have been relegated, whoever that might have been, or those places having been decided by some voodoo, then next season, whether or not it can finish, is already compromised or 'asterixe' before it starts. Voiding is not even a 'clean break' anyway, so why even consider it? Only makes senses in factional terms.

The FA and PL commitment to finishing the season seems genuine; once it was realised that existing deadlines about this season ending and the next one starting were unlikely to hold, I genuinely don't see why any reason for starting next season 'clean' should take precedence over this one ending.

Actually, restarting in June or whatever and getting the necessary points to pick the trophy up in the summer sun in front of a full house wpould positively enhance the winning experience, something I have not previously believed possible

Yeah, I wasn't unduly concerned at 2-1 with 20 to go. Thought we had another goal in us and they would tire; but it was the other way round.
