  5. I got the chance to ask Charlie Nicholas about that story. He thought it was funny but said he'd never got as far as having any direct contact with Liverpool. Even claimed he'd never owned any pink leather. This was when he'd just signed for Arsenal, the week before we played them (was it second week of the season?) and that story had been doing the rounds. A mate's father organized a beauty competition for a local rag down south. One of the judges was Suzanne Dando and she brought Charlie with her. Me and my mate were just 17 or 18 at the time, and to be fair to the man, he looked after us very well. Sat and chatted with us the whole evening while Suzanne was on the judges panel, and he paid for the drinks all night too.
  6. Thaksin and his wife have failed to show up for a court appearance in Bangkok this morning, and have apparently fled to the UK. It will be interesting to see how the UK government handles this (not to mention the sweet FA and Premier League) and what it means for Citeh. I don't suppose he'll find it too easy to sell if he's an international fugitive.
  7. Another one for 87/88. For the football we played and the whole crack of going to the match at that time. 85/86 close behind.

  11. I'd go along with that. Hansen is one of my all-time favourites. As mentioned, a fantastic reader of the game. To be fair to Lawrenson, his pace would come to Hansen's rescue on occasion - as a partnership I wouldn't split them up in an all-time team. Lawrenson was also more than decent in midfield.
  12. You hear it a lot from our own fans! In years before, nobody was really bothered about it we just knew - we were different from the rest. Nowadays, especially on the Internet, you seem to have people proclaiming how special we are every other game. Too much self-congratulation that just gets up everyone else's noses.
  13. Not one piece of commentary. But as a kid listening to the radio before I started going to games, the voices of Peter Jones and Brian Butler described some of my earliest Liverpool experiences. They were both wonderful commentators. I wouldn't put anyone else close.

  16. In my local market in Thailand this evening, a very nice looking grey polo shirt with the Sons of Shankly logo on the back. The wife was going to take a photo on her phone but the seller asked us not to as there might be some copyright infringement involved. Cost about 3 quid but a shade too small so I didn't buy it. Other sizes will be coming in the next few days apparently.
  17. No, he just meant he doesn't think Skrtel is fit.
  18. I think Kenny would find it very difficult to bring success on the pitch. And he'd probably still wheel out Gary Ablett to play in central defence too. But I'd love him to have a role at the club. A place on the board as a voice for 'the Liverpool Way' and all that. Parry provides absolutely no link between new outside owners and the club's traditions and the aspirations of the fans. Kenny would be perfect for that.
  19. I can't really see much point in DIC coming in and saying they'll have a new manager next season. Unless they want to make Rafa walk of his own accord - and that would be a dirty trick, not becoming of owners of Liverpool FC. If they want to make a change, come in and say they don't want Rafa, then fair enough. Send him on his way and bring someone else in. If Rafa stayed under those conditions, what would the rest of the season be like? Couldn't be any worse than it is now, you might say, but actually it could.
  20. Could he actually be of some use there?
  21. I don't feel anything for DIC. Yes, I'd like the Yanks out but that doesn't mean crawling to DIC. What if they don't turn out any better? Fans trying to get them out after literally begging them to come in? The main thing is that those running the club respect the club and the fans. Even if DIC rescue us from our current plight, they will still have to prove themselves and certainly shouldn't receive any kind of heroes' welcome.
  22. Think you'll find the word is efegees. I don't think a protest at the final whistle is a bad idea, as long as it starts up as soon as the whistle is blown. There's all the post-match media stuff that has to be done and a noisy fan protest will probably be more entertaining than the interviews etc.
  23. One or two players will possibly learn a valuable lesson from a game like this, and be the better for it. And others will find themselves on the way out.
  24. That is absolutely correct. And although Rafa will end up taking most of the flak on their behalf, the players out there should be kicked down the Anfield Road. It's nothing to do with coaching, nothing to do with the crap that's being on at the club. You can say it's Rafa's team, or whatever, but any bunch of Premier League professionals should be able to stick these away.
  25. I remember a couple of very hardcore Reds boycotting the match after Souness gave his interview to that rag. Season ticket holders, but they didn't set foot in Anfield until he'd gone. They would stay in the pub while everyone else went to the match. Its an individual decision as to whether you feel something bigger is at stake, I suppose.
