Bellamy (in spurts throughout his career) and Bent (albeit this season only, although he looked a good prospect at Ipswich) have both proved they can do it at Premiership level, yet people would seem to be happier with the more exotic and unproven Kuyt, Torres and Aguero. This attitude is dangerously close to the 'sIGn bIG naMes' mentality and it doesn't strike me as Rafa's way of operating at all.

Yeah, you'd have to back the manager's judgement. I know Souness probably isn't the easiest manager to get along with, especially if you're a you're a hot-head, but the various Newcastle episodes (including the stuff with Uncle Sir Bobby) leave big question marks over his character. From a purely football perspective, if he stayed fit, I could see him be a very effective player for us. He's got pace and aggression - two things we lack up front - and despite not being prolific, his goalscoring record isn't too shabby. I reckon you're looking at £8m or thereabouts. To be honest, I'd rather pay that for him than £15m for Torres.

He looks like a nightmare to play against if he's on his game. I'll be gobsmacked if we sign him, though. Seems like a right c*nt. He'd need to keep his mouth shut and accept wherever the manager wants to play him. It's a strange one.
