in football you're never going to get to purchase/sell each player you want at the price you desire... you win some you lose some... i would rather us be shrewd in our dealings than spill out 8m for owen and 10m for martins like newcastle... players have value to every club, i'm glad we don't waste our money

To be honest, with the money Chelsea was throwing Betis's way at that time, there wasn't really a chance there. EDIT: and everytime Rafa needs a goal, he pushes Stevie forward anyways. I don't see 9m for Kuyt being good business sense.

Surely he'll be available at a knockdown price from the drivel we were discussing when Chelsea were interested. We could probably get him for under 10m. Would you prefer to have him and JP battle it out for RM and push Stevie forward? I may prefer this option than getting Kuyt for 9m.

i disagree... we haven't proved we can match Chelsea in the league over a duration of a season... if we had we'd have won the title at least once in the last couple of years... but i agree that we're getting to the point that Chelsea is doubting themselves, but until we take the title we haven't proved anything except we can beat them in one game

what has given us the extra edge is the love of the shirt that our players are playing with... Gonzalez waiting an entire year on loan in Spain in anticipation of his debut when there was no certainty he'd be given his work permit, while Bellamy and Jermaine both have had to realize how lucky they are to be with us after many failures in judgement in the past... it's this pride to wear the red of liverpool that shows up in these big games... while we don't have a problem with slackers on this team, the extra effort gets noticed by everyone and all the players play that much harder... that is why Rafa looks for players who'd do anything to play for us... let's hope this play carries on through the season because each of our players has something to prove in trying to beat Chelsea to the title

you wouldn't consider Kewell as a 4th striker even with his fitness record? i'm not talking 2nd or 3rd, i'm talking 4th... and I agree with Red, we have Garcia as well... there are only so many players you can accomodate for 1 maybe 2 positions

with his crossing ability surely we should look at buying Morientes from Valencia? he's one of the best headers of the ball in the game... does anybody know about his availability?

Bellamy's excited about playing for his boyhood team let him be... on a sidenote is anybody else speechless about the prospects that we may field a midfield next season of Gonzalez, Alonso, Gerrard, Sissoko, Kewell and Alves next season? i don't think a team in the world could top that, not even Barcelona
