Michael CAN walk out on Newcastle in the summer if:

1) Newcastle fail to qualify for Europe. There is a £12million release clause.

2) If a club bids £12million or more in cash, not staggered payments, Owen is allowed to talk to them.

3) If Liverpool make any offer, Owen has be informed regardless of what fee they offer i.e. Newcastle cannot hide any bids that don't meet the release clause

4) He can walk if Newcastle are relegated

5) He has an option to walk if the manager (then Souness) is replaced. He can only do this when a new manager is confirmed and in position.

6) Outside the clauses/trigger fee, if anyone bids £15m+ (doesn't have to be cash upfront) he can speak to them.

It's supposed to come from Richie Patridge who is engaged to Owen's sister.

I wonder what clauses he'd insist upon if he joined us.

Wasn't there a rumour that when Rafa arrived and offered Owen a new contract, lil Mikey asked for a clause (along with a load of others) which meant that he was guaranteed a place in the team when fit and that Rafa said that was something no player could ask for and he was the manager.

Michael Owen: Now pay particular attention to this first clause, because it's most important. There's the party of the first part shall be known in this contract as the party of the first part. How do you like that, that's pretty neat eh?

Freddie Shepherd: No, that's no good.

Michael Owen: What's the matter with it?

Freddie Shepherd: I don't know, let's hear it again.

Michael Owen: So the party of the first part shall be known in this contract as the party of the first part.

Freddie Shepherd: Well it sounds a little better this time.

Michael Owen: Well, it grows on you. Would you like to hear it once more?

Freddie Shepherd: Just the first part.

Michael Owen: What do you mean, the party of the first part?

Freddie Shepherd: No, the first part of the party, of the first part.

Michael Owen: All right. It says the first part of the party of the first part shall be known in this contract as the first part of the party of the first part, shall be known in this contract - look, why should we quarrel about a thing like this, we'll take it right out, eh?

Freddie Shepherd: Yes, it's too long anyhow. Now what have we got left?

Michael Owen: Well I've got about a foot and a half. Now what's the matter?

Freddie Shepherd: I don't like the second party either.

Michael Owen: Well, you should have come to the first party, we didn't get home till around four in the morning. I was blind for three days.

Freddie Shepherd: Hey look, why can't the first part of the second party be the second part of the first party, then you'll get something.

Michael Owen: Well look, rather than go through all that again, what do you say?

Freddie Shepherd: Fine.

Michael Owen: Now I've got something here you're bound to like, you'll be crazy about it.

Freddie Shepherd: No, I don't like it.

Michael Owen: You don't like what?

Freddie Shepherd: Whatever it is, I don't like it.

Michael Owen: Well don't let's break up an old friendship over a thing like that. Ready?

Freddie Shepherd: OK. Now the next part I don't think you're going to like.

Michael Owen: Well your word's good enough for me. Now then, is my word good enough for you?

Freddie Shepherd: I should say not.

Michael Owen: Well I'll take out two more clauses. Now the party of the eighth part --

Freddie Shepherd: No, that's no good, no.

Michael Owen: The party of the ninth part

Freddie Shepherd: No, that's no good too. Hey, how is it my contract is skinnier than yours?

Michael Owen: Well, I don't know, you must have been out on a tail last night. But anyhow, we're all set now, are we? Now just you put your name right down there, then the deal is legal.

Freddie Shepherd: I forgot to tell you, I can't write.

Michael Owen: Well that's all right, there's no ink in the pen anyhow. But listen, it's a contract isn't it? We've got a contract, no matter how small it is.

Freddie Shepherd: Oh sure. You bet. Hey wait, wait. What does this say here, this thing here?

Michael Owen: Oh that? Oh that's the usual clause, that's in every contract. That just says, it says, 'If any of the parties participating in this contract are shown not to be in their right mind, the entire agreement is automatically nullified.'

Freddie Shepherd: Well, I don't know.

Michael Owen: It's all right, that's in every contract. That's what they call a sanity clause.

Freddie Shepherd: You can't fool me, there ain't no sanity clause.

A few months ago we were discussing why the heck they hadn't sacked Souness and I know one of the reasons I raised with friends was teh possibility of an Owen walking clause. Sack him in Jan and Mikey was an Anfield for Feb perhaps??

Guest Les Howard

He said "newcastle" ;)

This was posted - word for word - on Koptalk last week. Obviously it has done the rounds and ended up on a NU website.

I don't think Owen would be able to negotiate any clauses if he comes to us, since Rafa has the upper hand. I think Owen would be good for us and I'd welcome him back, but we are not desperate and we should have other quality options depending on what Rafa thinks best.
