Crouch and his chest

I have been a firm supporter of Crouch through his bad times but really feel he is losing it lately.

I'm very concern that success at the end of last year may have gone into his head. He is no longer the holding ball player, directly the play in attack.

He tries to chest the ball too much. Have to say his technique at chesting is very poor.

Why cant he do the simple things and use his head and less his chest to direct balls or attack.

Chesting the ball with his height will allow a smaller player to nick it from him easily.

Surely he's chesting balls at a height which is at his chest? Hence, smaller players are going to be able to get to it either way- regardless of whether he chests or heads the thing at that height.

Have a day off mate. ;)

And his heading is any better?

If the ball comes at chest height he should head it instead in order that he controls it better, which he's not likely to do given he's going to be stopping a couple of foot to get the ball.

Is that the premise of your argument?

Have ya heard about me brother Sylvest?

He's got a row of fourty medals on his chest (Big chest!)

He killed fifty capmen in the West,

He knows no rest, kind of the man, hellfire

Don't push, don't shove, plenty of room for you and me

He's got an arm like a leg,

And a fist that would sink a battle ship (Big ship!)

Takes all the Army and the Navy

To put the wind up Sylvest

He thought he'd take a trip to Italy

He thought that he'd go by sea,

He dived off the harbor at New York

And he swam like a man from cork

He saw the Lusitania in distress (What did he do?)

Put the big ship Lusitania on his chest (Big chest!)

He drank all the water in the sea

And he walked all the way to Italy.

40 medals....... obviously the guys a born winner. Just what we need!!! ;)

Lads, I think the original poster meant to say that Crouch doesn't seem to be able to kill the ball with his chest. The number of times the ball bounced of his chest and out of his control yesterday were numerous. Just look at the chance he got in the first half. Good pass into the box, Crouch chests the ball out of his reach when clear through and gets tackled when in all reality he should have scored.

Every player has his area to work. Crouch needs to work on his first touch in general.

I am more worried about his heading, especially when in front of goal

It is like his head is a 50 pence peice and the ball seems to bounce off it at all sort of strange angles.

He will be OK though crouch, especially next season when he has two other strikers to help him out a bit. He is something different, problem is, we dont have anything else at the minute so when his form dips, as it has the last month, we are f'cked up front.

Morientes and Ciise have not given us three great games between them since they have been at the club.

We have made huge progress in the league from last season, even with this little slump we are having. But the board need to back him with proper money this summer, not free transfers etc, proper money to buy a right winger and two strikers. They should be able to get a few quid for ciise and morientes. Owen is a bang on cert to come back for £12 million cos there is not a chance in hell Newcastle will qualify for Europe.

They should get £8/9 million for ciise and morientes.

If they are serious about challenging chelsea, then they need to spend serious money on a winger and two strikers.

In a nutshell. Until they start releasing cash, we haven't got a fecking chance of challenging Chelsea. Only money talks nowadays if you want to make a sustained challenge for the titlew. You need a big powerful sqaud to challenge Cheslea, and we're probably 4 top class players short. That's about 30 million probably.

A Premiership-proven finisher has got to be the priority for the summer. Owen is the obvious candidate - he's still only 26 and has a great understanding with Gerrard.

I guess the other options are the likes of Defoe and Yakubu.

So the basic premise is that we have a lanky beanpole of a striker with dodgy ball control and who cannot score who needs a little nippy fella running off him

Would that be as opposed to 2 years back where we had a big lump of a striker with dodgy ball control and who couldn't score, who had a little nippy fella running off him?

Just asking, like....
