The red card

There was contact and as the last man he had to go. Should Kewell stay up? There was half a pitch to run and Kewell is quick no more, so I don't really mind either way. The red card took the steam out of their sail.

Haven't seen it yet, but it shouldn't matter if he goes down or not if he is fouled. It's just the sad reflection on referees that unless you make the most of it, the foul isn't given.

Ideally, if a defender commits a professional foul yet the player manages to stay up and score the goal, the defender should still see red, as he still tried to cheat.

At the time I expected a yellow card because;

The foul happened closer to the half way line than the penalty area, there was a covering defender chasing back who was right behind Kewell.

To dismiss a player the referee must be convinced that Kewell had a definate obvious goal scoring opportunity.

I don't think it was myself.
