I would take a £1m+ bid for him, or part ex on another player. Hes a legend now. He shouldnt go spoiling that with comments like those. I can understand his frustrations and i actually expected him to be sold in the summer past. Not sure why Rafa wants to hold on to him as he is 3rd choice now.

would it be too much for the club to give him a free transfer?

we're skint remember and need all the dosh we can scrape together ;)

Anyway, I don't think the club should give him a free transfer, and I wouldn't expect them too. Dont' see why they should.

I think that it was good management not letting him go in the summer, Rafa probably wanted to see how Pepe settled into the team and the premiership, I would say that Rafa will let him go if he gets a decent offer now though.

Tottenham have just got £7.5M for their 5th and 6th choice CM players and 3rd choice LB, why should we let him go for nothing?

because we're not a two-bob club like tottenham. just think it would've been a nice thankyou and tribute to jerzy if we were replacing him to let him go and finish his career somewhere warm.

If what he is saying about us wanting £3m for him is true then he's kinda got a point. He's a been a good servant of this club, and deserves his move away if there's no place for him.

Anyone else get the feeling that Rafa's a hard b*****d when he needs to be? (That's a good thing.)

Do you really think that Steve?

My stance is that we're not a charity, Jerzy has had a fantastic time with us, been paid massively enabling him to live comfortably for the rest of his life, picked up the biggest prize in Club football and is respected for his massive part in securing that prize for us. He is a good Goalkeeper, hopefully we get a few quid for him and he goes on to end his career somewhere where he is happy and gets regular footy. But we are talking about millions of pounds, money that can always be used by the Manager to bolster other areas as he sees fit.

Letting your heart rule your head there Stevie, you cannot run a football club nowadays on sentiment.

It's exactly this kind of thing that Rafa and/or Parry are trying to change.

If Dudek was a Tottenham player, how much would they sell him for? I see no reason why we shouldn't sell for the same amount. If we let quality internationals like Dudek leave for pennies, we probably won't be able to afford that little bit extra to get the player(s) we want.

It's a vicious circle, which Rafa & Rick are trying hard to break.

Yeah, but you have to presume £3m is a starting point, we will probably get £1.5m

Don't think we should offer a free transfer, as he'll end up at Benfica or somewhere where we might want to use him as a bargaining chip.

Dudek probably has another four years of his playing career ahead of him, so I think we are entitled to ask for £1-1.5 million. He's still a very good keeper and it's just a shame he didn't leave in the summer when it became clear Reina was arriving to replace him.

I'm not going to go into why he deserves a 'Thank You' from us or whether we deserve one from him for the CL victory last season, but we are obviously not 'cash rich' so to give away a valuable asset for nothing makes no sense to me whatsoever.

He is in his early 30's and potentially has 5 years or more left in him, is a CL winner and international GK for Poland, is younger than and boasts a better pedigree than Van der Saar who United paid £M's for.

Sell him, and fine him first for bitching to the press.

You've got to have a bit of sympathy with Jerzy, he's already third in the pecking order and we've just signed two more keepers!!!

I might have had until I read this quote:

"I didn't go to play against Luton in the FA Cup last Saturday especially to make it clear to Benitez I am not interested in being the club's second-choice keeper.

"Why doesn't he behave like a decent person for once in his life and start treating me in a proper way, like I always have him?"

The implication in that second sentence should see him hung out to dry like Henchoz was.

And another piece of advice for the idiot: saying 'I'm not worth the fee the club want for me' is not the best way to go about getting a transfer.

as fish says, heart probably is ruling head paul. i don't like the way jerzy's gone about this, and am disappointed with him, but to be honest not many clubs are going to bid much for a 33-year old goalkeeper. i'd prefer we threw him out on loan somewhere rather than have him sitting at home getting the a*** about not playing. unless of course bent harry's going to come in and take him to portsmouth. . .

Very true that. We've sold good players for peanuts for far too long (although I imagine alot is due to high wages).

not sure about the bit in bold but the rest is fair enough

If Fulham can pay £1M for Niemi - we should get some cash for Jerzy - £3M is a bit steep mebbe but i'm sure we'd accept less.

but if we don't sell him and he continues to cost us wages while not adding to the team then surely it is better to be gotten shut of

If he's still around in the summer then I'd agree with that. At the moment he's still an asset we should get good value for.

Good

Dudek set to pay price for attack

Jan 13 2006

By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

JERZY DUDEK is facing a club fine following an astonishing attack on Rafa Benitez today.

Dudek has slammed the Reds for slapping a £3m price tag on him. In fact, Benitez wants £4m for the keeper.

The Polish keeper is extensively quoted attacking the Liverpool boss, but Benitez will hold firm in his determination to attract the right price for the stopper.

It's clear Dudek's latest quotes - engineered by his representatives - are designed to make his position at the club untenable. Interviews of this kind usually incur a fine of two weeks' wages.

Benitez won't be fooled into allowing the Pole to leave on the cheap. Although Pepe Reina is the new number one, the Spanish boss feels Dudek's reputation in Europe is justifiably high and interested clubs should get real about his value.

Although Dudek is 32, many top goalkeepers play at the highest level until their late 30s.

Benitez wants to change the recent culture at Anfield whereby expensive signings left for less than half their original fee.

Dudek was signed in 2001 for £7m. "Jerzy's value increased after his performance in the Champions League final. It's up to other clubs to meet our valuation or we are in no hurry to sell," an Anfield source said today.

Dudek wants to leave Liverpool "at whatever cost" and insists he will not play another game for the club.

"My time at Liverpool has reached its end. Nothing can change that," Dudek said.

"If someone buys me for £3million, Liverpool will have pulled off the transfer deal of the year. I am 33 in March. I have no idea how they came to such an absurd figure.

"Even if Benitez wants to play me in a Liverpool match, I don't want to play for this club any more.

"I can't see any point talking further with Benitez. It's a waste of time. I have decided to leave Liverpool at whatever cost and I won't change my mind. Benitez just makes the frustration deeper.

"I didn't go to play against Luton in the FA Cup last Saturday especially to make it clear to Benitez I am not interested in being the club's second-choice keeper."

Benfica have been linked with Dudek recently, but Liverpool have only been approached for loan deals.

IMO Rafa is waiting til the summer when, by Dudek?s own admission he would like to return to Feynoord, we will use him as part of the deal for Kuyt.

I think Dudek is getting frustrated cos of it being a World Cup year (not that it excuses some of his comments) and maybe he thought that deals for either Simao or Kuyt this Jan would have seen him move to either Benfica or Feynoord as part of any transfer. Now that Kuyt seems to be staying put til the summer and Benfica signing a keeper those options are dead and he just wants to get some games so that he can be number 1 in time for Poland?s World Cup matches. As for the £3m valuation how often to clubs get what they want (unless Chelsea want the player!!)? I wouldn?t be surprised if we?d accept £1.5m-£2m.

I wonder whether it?d be possible to loan him to Feynoord or even sell him to them now and get some sort of pre-contract agreement with them over Kuyt?
