Just heard on the radio, that RP is pi**ed off with honours list (tomorrows Times) as no LFC players or staff where nominated, I know we all mentioned this but now its Parrys turn. The reporter said why the cricketers and not Liverpool? Will read more tomorrow

Why is this surfacing now?

[Ludicrous Conspiracy theory mode] Times, stable mates of the unnamed one, and chief Chelski schlong suckers, sit on this story until a day or two before Gonzalez's work permit hearing (not actually sure when this is mind!), pissing off the decision makers to the point where they turn us down again. On which point, I will feckin rant about Bob Paisley being ignored.

he is the ONLY man to coach a team THREE FKIN TIMES to Euro cup glory. In the history of the f***ing cup.

Matt Busby got a knighthood for 68. Fergie got one.. I bet it f***in itches everytime he thinks of Paisley.

Paisley won it back to back !!!!!!!!!!.. ONLY THREE TEAMS ever have done that !! (us, Ajax and Milan, I think)

Where oh where is the justice in this. Give Bob a postumous recognition at least, you miserable b******s.

THE greatest football manager of all-time.. and is ignored completely. Shame on our great Honours giving regime.

Rant over.

RIP Bob

I don't mean to piss on your bonfire too much mate, Uncle Bob deserved a knighthood at least as much as any other figure in footballing history. But I'm a bit of a pedant. Real Madrid, Benfica, Internazionale, Ajax Amsterdam, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Notts Forest and AC Milan have all won it back to back. I don't know how many had the same manager whilst doing this, but it's difficult to imagine too many being sacked having just won the big one.

Top rant though and fully justified. :)

Did you really think the queen would make the effort, mate ? I hoped at the time, but sadly she proved me right in my initial thoughts.

Right.. just figured out where that came from.. teams unbeaten in progress to CL win. Ajax, Milan and LFC.. 1984.

Seven wins and 2 draws, again (I think)

It's taken from this weeks official LFC magazine and he merely makes the same points others did on the day they were announced when The Times did a trawl of LFC figures.

Aye, nice Finnan article in there too.

He really should have a song

From The Times last Friday:

LIVERPOOL’S Champions League winners could be recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June after their omission from the new year list. The players claimed not to care but were privately miffed at what they saw as the Government’s hypocrisy after Richard Caborn, the Sports Minister, celebrated with them in the dressing-room and had his picture taken with the trophy. The cynicism is probably misplaced as Caborn was in Istanbul largely to lobby IOC members before the 2012 Olympic vote and did not publicise his post-game antics.

Does any twenty-something millionaire sports star really deserve an honour? True legends of the game who've made long-lasting contributions to the nation do, but personally I'd put more stock in the whole honours thing if it did less honouring of the super-wealthy (whether business or sport) and more of the real heroes out there.

Makes me sick that we massage the ego of a ponce like Beckham (or that badger-haired twerp from the cricket team), and I sincerely hope none of our players are seriously miffed at missing out. The last f***ing thing footballers in this country need is something else to detach them from reality.

whether sports stars deserve awards like this is irrelevant ,the fact is that if you give awards to cricketers and even berhard langer a golfer who isn't from this country then how the hell can you miss out giving an award to the english captain of an english club who won a european cup.? there should be some consistency .

Yes, they should consistently not get a medal. Two wrongs don't make a right and all that.

The honours system is a farce. Who is the feckin queen to 'honour' someone? Our better? Is she feck. The sooner there's a revolution, the better

On a slightly pedantic note (no Royalist I) but the queen has very little to do with the Honours bestowed other than to countersign the list forwarded to her by the cabinet secretary. There is minor room for her to object or strongly support a claim, but the 'nominations' are made in the first instance by the public (then seconded), or by Public servants, corporate boards etc - these are then forwarded by the relevant palace flunkey to Downing street where, apart from the odd celeb and lollypop lady, they are summarily ignored in favour of what are essentially political or populist choices.

The civil service essentially compile the list of who gets what, which is why they themselves get more than most. No. 10 adds it's on choices and if they're the lucky, a few non-controversial (but cynically opportunist) selections are retained from the public submissions.

The Queen and her chromosomically challenged offspring may be a right bunch of twunts, but in this incidence, they are largely bystanders.

Read somewhere, that apperently, Alistair Cambell was on the phone straight after the Munsters winning in Barcelona to Blair telling him to knight Taggert. Much the same when Ellen McCarthur got her gong even before she got of her boat.

Is it me or is that Cabhorn a sneaky weasily fvcker?

It's moments like these where I'd love to be a Liverpool player

and tell the " Queen" and her inbread cohorts where to stick it.

Ohhh for the pleasure... Finnan would never....

Wear those Italian leather boots, Stevie boy, and give her a kick up the gee for herself.
