Should be named captain with immediate effect.

See if Gerard handles it as well as Sami when he replaced him.

what would be the point of that?

Posted

Because he's a leader?

I meant about seeing if gerrard would accept it like Hyypia

will we gain anything about upsetting Gerrard and half of the squad?

A better captain?

Possible reduction in player power?

Yes, but in relation to the point, it would upset a lot of people. He would, IMHO, be a much better captain, he is, in IMHO, a better leader and is an aspirational professional BUT it would upset a lot of people.

Wow! What a human being!

PEPE REINA has given under-pressure Liverpool the perfect new year’s present by insisting he has no intention of leaving the club.

Keeper Reina, 28, is a £20million target for Manchester United as they look to find a long-term replacement for Edwin van der Sar – and has also been heavily linked with Arsenal and Real Madrid.

But the Spaniard, who signed a mammoth six-year contract only last season, says he is determined to stay put.

Reina insisted: “I’m tired of rumours linking me with many teams in England and abroad.

“I am a man of my word and commitment. I will honour my contract with Liverpool.

“Stories of these offers are not true. I have not spoken to anyone – ever – and I am 100 per cent a Liverpool player.”

Reina is desperate to return to winning ways at Anfield.

He added: “Since I’ve been here I’ve found an incredible passion, more than I thought from Spain.

“Liverpool as a club is sacred, it is something special.

“Being Liverpool’s goalkeeper is a privilege. For now I just want to win trophies for them.”

Too young to remember Clemence but this guy is our best ever for me.

A giant of a player.

Clemence was magnificent but Pepe is on another level. He's far and away the best goalkeeper I've seen play for Liverpool and he's in the top three of the last twenty years. Schemical was a truly great keeper and Cech was his equal until he got injured but if Reina maintains his form for the rest of his contract then there will be a case to be made for him being the best in premiership history and arguably in British football for the last 50 years.

Agree completely with other people about Reina becoming captain though I don't think it should be driven by wanting to humiliate Gerrard. His insecurities are well known, and while he should never have been made captain he is one of the top 5 players to play for the club and therefore deserves respect.

He should definitely succeed Gerard but I don't think he should replace him.

I don't want him off managing Villa and keeping goal for us but if he does we should deffo buy a new keeper to replace him.

Reina is our most down to earth and sometimes actually most inspirational team member. If our goalkeeper kits weren't so horrific I'd prob get one with him on the back..
