So..Gerrard is no longer first choice to play alongside torres..?

So if we go off this quote, does it mean that Gerrard WILL be shifted back into central midfield?? and if so...is this a good idea considering how good torres and gerrard are as a patnership?

He also said (in the same set of quotes I think) that he was looking for someone who could fill in for Fernando, and take some weight off his shoulders. If he was so resolute about 442 why didn't he partner Kuyt or Babel (who he sees as a striker for now) alongside Torres yesterday ? Why do exactly what you say he doesn't want to do, by actually partnering Torres with Gerrard ?

Newsflash, liverpool might play more than one formation this season. They may even switch from one formation to another in the same game

Maybe I am looking at our squad differently to everyone else but we have Lucas, Poulsen and Meireles in midfield and from what I know of the 2 new recruits they are not the most creative. I think Gerrard will be considered more of as a midfielder. Babel seems to get a go upfront and we have Ngog with Cole likely to play centrally when fit.

 

I think Gerrard will play more in the CM position than in the AMF position.

well he has to try something.

 

watching us yesterday was painful at times and sleep inducing at others.

 

we have to get a plan B, C and D in place, just in case plan A doesn't work.

Why? Seriously, when was the last time he had a good game in CM? ... 2003?! Jesus I really think Sky have done a serious number on some fans. Listen, he's a great player but The man CAN'T play as a modern CM. He's not mobile enough, hasn't got the vision required and the technical ability to properly dictate the pattern of play in the middle of the park. Link up effectively the defence & attack. His role under Houllier was to hit 45 yard Hollywood balls over the top to Owen. It worked up to a point. When we played Arsenal at the start oif this season I was having horrible flashbacks of these same balls as he launched it up to Cole & Ngog. It was as if Hodgson had just dusted down his old mate Houlliers play-book.

 

For all you Hairy Hands/Andy Gray apostles out there hows about this.... Scholes, Essien, Fabregas, Xavi, Alonso, Pirlo, Ozil, are all light years ahead of SG in the CM position. Not to mention the fact that when he plays in CM we lose his explosiveness up front. Get fecking real. Our problem is that we play 2 DMs behind Gerrard. Hopefully Meireles will turn out to be the solution here.

 

Gerrards best position is either on the RHS of a front 3 or in the no.10 role supporting the main striker. He has proven to be consistently good in these positions. He has proven to be consistently unable to play CM.

I would suggest our manager is not used to this level or playing or this level of players.

 

I would say he is exactly at this level - we're not exactly world beaters are we
