Why did he never make a decent manager?

Everytime I see him on Sky he makes good, insightful comments about what's happening on the pitch, and is very astute tactically.

He clearly understands the intricacies of the game, and it makes me wonder why he never really made it as a manager.

david Pleat and Graham Taylor are two of teh best summerisers out there. neither having done much as manager

and to be fior to Souness, although he was s**** here, he won a league cup at blackburn, won plenty at Rangers, infact he turned Rangers into a very good side, and will always be popular at Galatasary

his record is not that bad overall, he actually did well with blackburn, Rangers, benefica and Galatasray

Overall, I don't think he is any worse than Hughes, Bruce or any of the rest of the average british managers

Two things

I thought he looked ill last night - losing a lot of weight

And his appointment - and his decisions - really could not have come at a worse time given the creation of the Prem league and the money that flowed instantly into the game. had he come in a couple of seasons earlier - or even later - the impact may not have been so great but the timing was a "perfect storm" from which I think we are still recovering

Souness is a breath of fresh air on Sky.

That's what I aways think, his analysis is really, really good. He's got a great understanding of the game.

I suppose most chaps with 3 Euro Cups do..

I like the contempt both he and Gullit clearly have for Keys and Redknapp.

And yet Gullit with all his experience comes across as a thick t***..

as does Desially, and he even won the world cup

Souness came in believing that wholesale changes were required. They weren't.

They were, he just did it too quick, and the replacements were mostly s****

That's coz he's only got two!!

souness also has the same problem i think roy keane has now. he can't understand why other players don't have his intense burning desire and will to win at all costs.

yep, can't handle players who don't match the standards they set themselves. I have the same problem in 5 a sides.

Yes, tends to manage and analyse the way he played. Can't understand much outside his own spectrum.

That's why Keane will always be very limited as a manager as technically he was really very average, but not many had his desire.

not sure keane was that average technically to be honest. not a dribbler no, but he was a lovely passer of the ball.

and he thought Paul Stewart, Ruddock and David James shared his intense burning desire?

He could pass alright but not 'round corners' or anything special. He passed it early and consistently. In his own words he did the simple thing well all of the time.

Agree. He was a very good passer. Kept it simple and kept the ball moving.

It's one thing talking about it, usually after the event, it's another thing working out what to do beforehand and executing it.

Why, what does he do?

"keeps it simple, keeps it moving"

Keane was a brilliant midfielder, he was a lot more than that, he was more important to united than (the over rated)Cantona
