BBC entirely missing the point of the Anfield crowd ...

Apologies if this should be in a different forum.

But I'm dismayed that the chanting / comments / shouts (whatever) during Andy Burnham's speech (representing the Government) was reported on BBC News 24 as 'bad behaviour'. It was NOT. It was 20 years of passionate frustration - and, for me, absolutely appropriate and dignified, even.

Credit to Mr. Burnham for carrying on his speech, which did have some personal experiences of that day (He was at the Everton semi), but he must, and I'm sure does, realise why he was interrupted.

But Bad behaviour it certainly was not.

Burnham was half expecting it I think. While Trevor Hicks apologised for the interruption he also raised the issue of justice, so I certainly wouldn't call it bad behaviour.

Who was the guy singing the song about the tragedy? Not heard that before.

Burnham, speaking as a representative of the Prime Minister, had the audacity to use the word Justice while he was standing a few feet away from the families. While some of the things he went on to say were well received, he should have known better.

Sat amongst the families, I can tell you the booing etc were not well received, but the chants of Justice for the 96 very much were. I'm not saying that the booing wasn't justified, as it absolutely was.

I can't speak for everyone, but myself and the people sat around me thought Trevor was out of order apologising.

I think the response of the crowd was dignified defiance and certainly not bad behaviour - I feared that some elements of the press would take that stance though.

HAS the chief chappy at South Yorks accepted full responsibility by the way - I know from the David Conn video interview in the Guardian he was hinting at it but I didn't think it was as unequivocal as it was made out to be today though.

No. Trevor Hicks hadn't even heard him say it, 'someone told me'. So it was a stupid thing to bring up

Have to say it seemed unlikely to me he would have done.

I guess the pressure will be on SYP to make ANOTHER statement about it though which I suppose is a good thing as they'd like to duck the issue as much as possible.

I thought the service was really good today (although I missed some of it when LFC TV lost the feed) but there were also a few slightly strange moments during it.

It was really good.

I guess Trevor Hicks maybe could have been a little more concise but the guy did amazingly well to generally hold himself together given the circumstances and he did get all the main points accross.

The important thing, other than remembering the 96 and offering comfort to their families, was to keep the pressure on the authorities and educate people on the real truth. I think todays memorial should achieve that.

Hopefully the 'sensible' press (if that's not a misnomer) will report it in the right way.

Oh definitely. I strongly doubt I would ever be able to fulfill any role like that under those circumstances.

there are some very interesting discussion to be had around the HFSG, but not today.

Aye agreed, sorry if i seem insensitive

But finally the quote from SYP is

"South Yorkshire Police fully accept their responsibility for the Hillsborough disaster"

Ch Con Meredyd Hughes, South Yorkshire Police

Which is different from accepting full responsibility

I was proud of that response to Burnham. I stood and shouted in the Main Stand, it was an instinctive reaction, to do anything else would be hypocritical. He shouldn't have been there - it was his presence that was disrespectful. There's been a massive cover up and this government is as complicit as the one at the time.

As far I was aware the boo'ing was towards the people who kept on chanting justice as Andy tried to carry on with his speech, not towards the man himself.

I've seen snippets of the Anfield service - i was at Hillsborough today - and i'm listening to the service now but is it available to watch in full anywhere ?

The LFC channel is free for people on cable/Sky today, they're showing a few repeats of it.

My use of the words 'boo'ing etc' was inaccurate/obscure.

The shouts and chants of 'Justice' were well received by everyone.

There went on to be abuse thrown, which I believe most of the boo'ing was aimed at, yes.

Like other people, I was proud of the vast majority of the response to the man. I also felt he got off lightly, but that befitted the occasion. His use of the word 'Justice' while talking on behalf of the Prime Minister is inexcusable.

Didn't think of the channel. Head not working properly

Thanks.
