Just relflecting on Gus Hiddink's comments about how strange points are dropped in the run-in to a title, and decided to take a look at how the Mancs did in the same period last season. Memory and folk-lore would suggest that they stormed to the title. The reality is that although they had some big wins in the run-in, they were accident prone, dropping 12 points in the final 14 games.

By contrast we dropped just 7 in our final 13 matches. If history were to repeat we'd probably win it on goal difference. Interestingly we outpointed them on the run-in last time despite taking a beating form them at old Trafford. This time, they don't have an away trip to Chelsea still to come.

Maybe there's more mythology about their nerves of steel in this sort of battle, than we realise. At the least, the stats are a reminder that to an extent this league does remain in our hands. Play like champions, as we did in the last third of last season, and we may well end up as such.

Next game v Man City.

3 points.

Worrying about our rivals is exactly the type of thing that will leave us 2nd.

I've see this kind of thing quoted a lot - how many points were dropped when they had the title wrapped up though? And how many did we drop, with 4th place safe, when we played kids and reserves?

It should be noted that the title was only "wrapped up" at the final whistle of the last game of the season last year.

This season will be a different kettle of fish for a lot of reasons. Usually you want to steer clear of relegation threatened teams because they're more likely to scrap but this year there are so many of them! Unfortunatley I think it may be harder for us to go on a run because of this and because the crowd are a lot edgier than in the past.

The big thing the mancs have going for them is momentum, hopefully that changes and it turns out that we've created a bit of our own in the league lately.

I don't think you'll be getting a game Sean. Nor me. We can worry all we want.

It makes a difference if the prevailing atmosphere, especially at the games is one of nervousness because Manu are on a great run. We have to, try at least, to just get on with it without focusing on them, as it'll beat us up if they keep winning.

You're right, but fat chance.

in conjunction with what DH said, our first 11 games were a stormer winning 8, but in some senses it's amazing that we're so in the mix with the number of sloppy points we've spunked this season.

The Mancs can get 98 - what's that - 2 more than Chelsea did in 05? We can get 93. I'd be surprised if you need more than 85 to win it this season

And i think that would be the only way.

Not necessesarily. There's a lot of games to go. I we win at theirs, it is literally game on and i think they will get at leat one rough patch before end of season.

They probably will - and lose 1-0 to a dodgy penalty.

But after we win at Old Tr*fford, they'll crumble

Out of curiosity, do you really believe that or is it just talking the team up?

Who asked you?

Nobody, it was me that asked you.

Obviously I dont agree with you, but I was just wondering why you think that? Like I said, do you have reason for it or is it just what you hope?

Go and ask someone on a Man united forum

What? Do you think I will find someone that thinks Liverpool will beat us at OT and then we will collapse?

I doubt it.

I could ask "Who thinks that if we beat Liverpool at OT they will collapse and win nothing again this season?" and I will probably get a lot of takers with more reasons than you because of recent history. But I would probably say to them "If it does not pan out that way now we will all blame you lot for being pathetic t***s and putting the mockers on our season"

I guess we have idiots on our forum as well.

Hey! I guess you are chuffed over Wales win in the Rugby just now? :D
