I have been thinking about this since saturday, and although i would never normally suggest such a thing, i actually think we might be better playing a 2nd string at Preston and resting the entire first team, and if we lose, then so be it. The Mancs have 2 games in hand, but they also have a 2 legged league cup semi, and probably a final, and they will face serious fixture congestion later in the season, which will hopefully lead to tiredness, injuries and suspensions, and in a best case scenario, a derailment of the title challenge. Chelsea have all their major rivals to play away, and are starting to look a bit vulnerable. we could treat the next fortnight as a bit of a "winter break" and hopefully be back fresh and firing for the game at Stoke

I think it will be a similar type team to Spurs away in the Carling Cup, I could live with that. basically no Pepe, Carra, Gerrard, Kuyt, Riera, Agger, Insua, Arbeloa, Sami, Masch.

Skrtel and Torres to get a run out.

I don't think Rafa will play a first choice line up.

I didn't think Stevie would play but now I don't know, might be a case of getting straight back out there as soon as possible.

Cavilieri

Dossena

Hyppia

Skrtel

Carragher

Babel

Mascherano

Lucas

Benayoun

Keane

Torres

Is what I would play I think.

I'd consider Skrtel and Torres for this one but thats it.

Its not the League Cup and we have a week before our next game (Stoke away), so I'd like to think we'll put out a pretty strong side:

Cavalieri

Carra Skrtel Hyypia Insua

Benayoun Mascherano Alonso Riera

Keane Torres

Subs to include Reina, Agger, Lucas, Gerrard, Babel and Kuyt.

b******s. We want a day out at Wembley and we've been embarrassed too many times in this competition during Rafa's tenure so in the old Liverpool adage, take every game as it comes and go out to win it should apply.

Normally i would agree but I don't think we have the squad to fight on all fronts just yet, it would be brilliant to win of course but not at the expense of a title shot.

In comparison to the Premiership title, the FA Cup is about as tall as the Carling Cup in my eyes. Wouldnt be too pushed to be honest and quite frankly - our squad could do with some games and if they want to be considered good enough for Liverpool, should be able to put in a performance.

from that i'd leave out carragher, alonso and keane and play youngsters. maybe darby, lucas and nemeth in their places. should still have enough quality to win the match.

Think I'd actually play Gerrard in this game. Last thing he needs is time off to obsess over his case, and the longer it takes before he takes the pitch again, the more hype there'll be.

Cavalieri

Arbeloa - Skrtel - Hyypia - Insua

Babel - Gerrard - Lucas - Benayoun

Ngog - Keane

good point, I actually agree with that, get his football back in the headlines asap.

Yossi on the left is just wrong! He invariably stinks the place out.

I reckon you have to play him on the right or not at all.

I 100% agree. The only exceptions should be first team players who need to get 'match fit'. I'd include Torres, Skrtel, Babel, Lucas and Aurelio/Dossena in this category.

2nd stringers whom should definitely play to include : Cavilieri, Darby, Spearing, Ngog, El Zahr.

Get Gerrard back into the mix ASAP. It'll give him something to focus on and hopefully give him a few positive headlines if things go well.

Apart from that, I'd look to get Skrtel and Torres playing, with run outs to the likes of Darby and Nemeth if possible.

I'll be mildly annoyed if we get knocked out, but I'd consider it a risk worth taking if it aided a title challenge by even 5%.

And if we end up with a replay?

Sod that. Put a strong side out, get the game won and keep the winning streak going.

Yeah, sorry that's what I meant, I always write these formations down wrong.

Yossi right, Babel left. :hmm:

Great point. And he's likely to get less hassle at Preston than wherever it is we next play.

Rest Torres, let Keane fill his boots against them, give Skrtel a run out, keep Hyypia in to keep him happy, let's see if Babel can find his true level.

Cavalieri

Darby Skrtel Hyypia Dossena

El Zhar Gerrard Spearing Babel

Ngog Keane

Subs: Hanson Martin Insua Lucas Pennant Plessis Pacheco

Carvalieri

Darby

Skrtel

Aurelio

El Zhar

Plessis

Lucas

Babel

Keane

N'gog

Not bad. I'd go with:

Cavalieri

Darby Skrtel Agger Dossena

Babel Lucas Spearing El Zhar

N'Gog Keane

I'd go for Spearing ahead of Plessis as the FA Cup is bound to mean much more to him than it would to Plessis.

Wouldn't be too bothered if we put the kids out and got a pasting tbh.

We have bigger fish to fry at present.

Not sure we can have a sustained assault on the 'Premier' League while still in the 'Champions' League and the FA Cup.
