Abramovich puts Chelsea for sale?

Seriously affected by the world financial crisis, Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich is thinking of selling either Chelsea or his luxury yacht "Pelorus".

Assets depreciation and another effects of the world financial crisis might have reduced Roman Abramovich's personal fortune from €16,700 million to €2,300 million, according to Russian news agency Prime-Tass.

This is the current scenario for the Russian tycoon, who must made a decision: either he puts Chelsea for sale (he invested more than €210 million since July 2003, including the team's debts) or he sells his yacht, which is said to cost some €200 million.

The press published statements from an expert in financial transactions in soccer and former manager of two teams from Germany; according to him, "rumors about selling Chelsea started spreading in November" and Abramovich "is looking for a broker to lead the transaction."

Meanwhile, cuts in budget are already in force at Chelsea: 15 managers were fired (they earned €156,000 total per year)and no more free meals for the players at the cafeteria, according to Russian TV channel "Vesti-24".

Sure he has a rake a money invested in Chelsea as 'loans' and not 'equity' - he should increase the rate of interest he is due and given the credit crunch, could not possibly expect such loans to be rolled over but repaid at maturity.

Simple really. :)

They way it'll end up eventually is that he'll owe a favour to some other dodgy fecker and simply pass them the deeds (maybe for a nominal £1). Then the club will simply get passed around the Russian underground in arms trades and poker games.

In 10 years time no-one will have a clue who owns it, the club will have run up £1bn+ of debt and it'll be wound up.

And I'll laugh my **** off.

Billion??

Of course I would assume the "hacks" have used the falling Euro in their estimates to help!!

His money would have all been in sterling not roubles right

Of course there is this here (only a couple of years old ;) )

I Know the article states he has invested more than 210 million euros since 2003, but I'd make it a s*** load more than 210 million

They're obviously making a distinction between "invested" (money spent with the hope of getting some form of return, be it resale or success on the pitch) and "pissed away" (Schevchenko)

Ahh, I fell right into their little trap there then.

That would be great it would be the Woolworths sales all over again! 75% off all footballers, and if you buy Anelka you get Lampard for free!

Thanks, but no
