About time we beat Steve Bruce in the league, the fat headed b*****d. Assuming that Babel and Torres are injured and that Mascherano isn't considered following his late return from South America, I'd go;

4-4-2

Reina

Aurelio

Carragher

Agger

Arbeloa

Riera

Gerrard

Alonso

Benayoun

Kuyt

Keane.

Oh and I read last week that Zaki might be injured, anyone else heard anything about this? Heskey had an ice pack on his leg after the game yesterday too.

Ngog and Nemeth are both injured as well, is it a possibility that we will see Pacheco on the bench?

It has to be.

Very frustrating if Babel and Torres both miss out as Babel would probably have come into consideration in Fernando's absence.

And there was me thinking we were doing well with injuires two weeks ago, compared to Chelsea or United.

Now Torres, Skrtel, Babel, Nemeth, Ngog, possibly Keane.

Hard to know who should play until we know who is fit.

I'd say Kuyt somewhere in the starting XI would be a pretty safe bet

In all honesty we shouldn't need Torres to put away Wigan.

I'd be tempted to start Pennant to be honest as he will be far more fresh than our other options and is normally decent running at these weaker teams. Will give us slightly more (much needed) pace than Benayoun being on the right as well, assuming we have Kuyt and Keane up top.

Pacheco on the bench would be good :D

Chelsea couldn't put them away....

Pennant is s***.

I'd go for something like this:

Reina

Arbeloa Carragher Agger Dossena

Alonso Mascherano

Kuyt Gerrard Rieira

Keane

Thought it was more likely to be this after the inter****ingnationals

Reina

Arbeloa Carragher Hyppia Dossena

Alonso Mascherano

Kuyt Gerrard Rieira

Agger

Benayoun Gerrard Alonso Riera

Keane Kuyt

Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Hyypia, Lucas/Masch (whoever back first!), Pennant, El Zhar, Pacheco

At least thats what I hope he goes for, we need some sort of centre forward on the bench especially if Keane took a knock last night, and despite his size and lack of experience, I'd back Pacheco to create something before Brouwer, Nemeth must be cursing his luck.

We should still do these, it'd just worry me if we're chasing a goal with 20 minutes to go and they've got men behind the ball, could turn into a game like Birmingham last season

Reds sweat on Javier Mascherano and Lucas Leiva - Liverpool FC latest

Oct 17 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

RAFA BENITEZ'S post international hangover worsened today with both Javier Mascherano and Lucas Leiva struggling to be ready for tomorrow's visit of Wigan.

Mascherano and Lucas have been on international duty in South America with Argentina and Brazil and are not due to get back to Merseyside until tonight after gruelling trans-Atlantic flights.

With Fernando Torres already having been ruled out of the meeting with Steve Bruce's side through a hamstring injury picked up playing for Spain in midweek, it would be a massive blow to the Reds boss if he also had to do without the services of two central midfielders.

Benitez is particularly concerned about Mascherano's condition as the 24-year-old suffered a calf injury shortly after returning from his last spell of international duty and was out for a fortnight.

Although Mascherano picked up that problem playing for Liverpool, Benitez believes the fatigue of traveling thousands of miles to play for his country was a contributory factor and will assess his fitness before deciding whether or not he is in a good enough condition to face the Latics.

Ryan Babel has an outside chance of being involved despite picking up a sprained ankle playing for Holland but Torres may not figure for the Reds for the next fortnight.

Liverpool's top scorer will now miss out on making a playing return to the Vicente Calderon Stadium against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.

But Atletico president Enrique Cerezo is so keen to see one of Atletico's favourite sons back at the Calderon he has invited Torres to attend the game as his VIP guest.

Cerezo said: "We will invite him to the VIP box seat to watch the game because Atlético is his home"

Meanwhile, Liverpool are not about to launch a bid for Emile Heskey, despite speculation that the Wigan man is a target for Rafa Benitez.

The Reds boss is a long-time admirer of the 30-year-old striker but the signing of Albert Riera took Liverpool's transfer budget into the red and outgoing transfers are much more likely than incomings in the current financial climate.

Benitez had tried to balance the books by selling Jermaine Pennant to Blackburn but that was scuppered when the winger declined the move.

So unless there is a cash injection from club owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett the chances of Liverpool signing players – even on free transfers – are remote.

It's a 20ish hr flight from Argentina to the UK - why weren't they on a plane yesterday morning?!

I though Masch didn't play midweek, should have came back sooner
