Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has reportedly been told not to go out near White Hart Lane because lots of "dark-skinned people" live there.

Ex-Spurs forward Sergei Rebrov was quoted by the Daily Mirror as telling Russian magazine Football Weekly as telling Pavyluchenko he should not risk walking close to the ground because of the high crime rate.

Ukrainian Rebrov, who played for Tottenham between 2000 and 2004, said: "I wouldn't go for a walk on my own around White Hart Lane.

"A lot of dark-skinned people live there. So naturally the crime rate is higher than anywhere else.

"It's not nice to be a robbery victim. So I suggest that Roman doesn't walk but drives around that area."

Tottenham is based in the north London borough of Haringey, which has a non-white population of around 35 percent.

Pavlyuchenko arrived from Spartak Moscow on transfer deadline day in a £13.8 million deal after impressing for Russia at Euro 2008.

good lord.

thought Rebrov would keep his gob shut based solely on how crap he was...

Well it was obviously because he was afraid of all the dark skinned people, He thought White Hart lane was named white for a reason

Lost in translation I'm sure.

All of the foreign interviews that say something even vaguely controversial are aren't they?

Why hasn't anyone called him a racist yet?

Maybe we (naively) expect better from our own?

REBROV IS A RASCIST!!! That better?

I watched Live At The Apollo last night with Stephen K Amos and he was saying about a gig he was doing late one night at the Edinburgh Festival, where everyone was drunk; including himself; and he got the whole crowd screaming BABOOOOOON!

Great at 4 in the morning, but the next day he's walking down the street when a punter runs up right in front of him and shouts BABOOOOOON!

Talk about things being out of context.

They're partial to the odd bit of neanderthal racism in Ukraine. This one was a real gem...

The more Ukrainians that play in the national league, the more examples for the young generation. Let them learn from Shevchenko or Blokhin and not from some Zumba-Bumba whom they took off a tree, gave him two bananas and now he plays in the Ukrainian League. [...] I remember when I played football, if we lost a game it was not easy to walk the Kiev streets - there were many friends out there who could beat you up for that. But is there any sense in beating up a foreigner? Okay, you beat him up - next thing he does is pack up and go.
