Back entry diddler Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Know its been said before but I think Rafa is really missing Paco. When you look at Fergie he's always had a good assistant beit Joe Royle, Mclaren or Queiroz and all of them seem to be more successful as assistants than managers. United seemed to struggle when Queiroz left for Real and picked up when he returned.Rafa seems to have a stubborn personality and I guess its unlikely that Paco will return but I think he needs a more outgoing personality between him and the players. Not shore whether Thommo or Sammy would be ok or Aldo. Any ideas?
Maldini Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 It's PAKO! ...and Joe Royle? Also Dave U said Rafa wanted to bring Sammy Lee back to the club but it was vetoed by the powers that be.

Hassony Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Aren't we better this season without Pako than we were last season when Pako was here?
McBain Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Aren't we better this season without Pako than we were last season when Pako was here? Could go either way in terms of league placing and cl success In terms of the football we're playing. We're scoring more but looking more fragile defensively. I dont see that being down to the fitness coach/assistant

No idea if thats true but Sammy Lee cant join any club now, and couldnt then. He is still sorting out his severane with Bolton. Probably the real reason Rafa couldnt get him in.
RedHarvest Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 If that's true that Rafa wanted Sammy Lee I think it would be the perfect solution. Hopefully it will happen next season.

You mention this everytime Pako is brought up. Sammy Lee is still technically a Bolton employee - just like Pako is on "gardening leave" here. Neither can take a job until next season. Nothing at all to do with it being vetoed just for the hell of it. We can't employee Sammy Lee, and couldnt until at least next season.

The Veto might be because If we wanted him this season we would have had to pay a compensation to bolton, and the board decided against that as for Pako, he had a job with socidad as a director of football but quit a couple of months back
Bootle Buck Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 It seems very odd for a top club like Liverpool not to have an assistant Manager. We had most of our success with a bootroom of 4 coaches who all worked in unisom. Yes the manager pulled the strings but he couldn't have done it without his assistants. I watch Rafa mumbling to Alex Miller (who was a scout up until recently) and the young Spanish lad that looks like he is about 12. It is too much for Rafa to do by myself.

We lost Pako after the season started, so it might have just proved to be difficult to get the right man for the job and none os really know if Maccalister or sammy lee are the right men for the job
RedHarvest Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 and none os really know if Maccalister or sammy lee are the right men for the jobSammy has the experience and the club in his heart and if the reports about Rafa wanting him in are right his appointment next season would be an excellent call imo.

Jim D Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 (edited) Rafa needs a number two, he needs someone to act as the bridge between himself and the players. We know that Rafa is an outstanding tactical manager but seemingly in the Premier League he is falling short in motivating his players for League games. That is what Pako's job essentially was, Rafa needs to find another Pako and quickly. Edited March 25, 2008 by Jim D
Coyler Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 The baldy c*** That's more like it. He got a lot of goodwill on leaving because nobody realized at the time he was the brains behind zonal marking, fitness, the rotation system, and winning at Anfield.
