An Argie friend of mine pronounces it "Macc-erano" and she's from the same city as him. His nickname in Argentina was "Macca" believe it or not.

I'm pretty sure it's an Italian name (as is Maradona, I think, and many names in Argentina) so it should be pronounced Mask-er-ano.

Whether, Mascherano himself uses the Italian pronounciation, I don't know, but I expect he does.

What it definitely isn't is a German name, so it's NOT Mash-er-ano. Perhaps Mass-Cher-ano if it's Spanish-ized.

He'll be gone in a few weeks so just practise saying "sack Parry"

Don't we have him on loan for another 9 months - I thought he was loaned for 18 months when he signed?

Cecilia, a printer from Buenos Aires I know says it the same way - I'd been doing the Mash bit until then too.

I pronounce it Mas-ker-an-o.

I haven't a clue what the correct pronunciation is.

In Castellano (Main Spanish) 'Mas-ker-an-o' would be correct, however since the South American dialect is varied..... The S may be silent or thickly pronounced.

Either way is better than the Ma-sh-erano that I've heard too many times. Not that it's anyone's fault - just that it's never been made clear and the the comentators are useless at getting people's names right. i.e. David Pleat
