only ones i can think of at the moment, who haven't been tried, are matthew etherington and matthew taylor. neither of whom could be called top class.

was interesting when i went to pick up my son from football practice at school yesterday, the teacher was promoting really well the use of both feet and giving advice to the boys on when and how to use their feet.

We paid for our son to go to private football training and this was something i never saw / heard in a number of sessions.

was pleased with how the teacher was helping them at such a young age :)

Interesting that. What kind of thing DID he hear in his private training sessions?

When I played football as a kid one of the most common calls from the touchline was "GET RID OF IT!!!!"

what's that in Portuguese? ;)

the private lessons were much more about ball control round cones and they did clever games where they had to find space on the pitch rather than bunch up.

they didn't actually get to play that much football.

Saying that, i wasn't there for the whole of the training session at his school, so they may have done things like that too.

and no idea what that is in Portuguese ;)

Our coach used to shout that to the players we had who were not up to scratch. To us good players he shouted "Run at him"

Left footers are hard to find, in all the teams I have played in since I was a kid I can never remember a good left winger.

I never rated Waddle much, but if Barnes is the standard then there were very few English left midfielders of that standard before either

Me neither. He was a real clown. He'd run the length of the pitch beating 8 of the opposition and then, when he was on the verge of unleashing a cross or shot, trip over his own boot laces. Never gave me the impression he could cut it at international level.

Barnes or Waddle?

Citeh went through a phase about 8 years back when they were offering any left-footed kid who walked through their doors, whether they could kick a ball or not, a 3-year placement.

That'll be how they ended up with all those one-legged trainees
