However, a defiant Benitez said: "I was pleased with the performance, but we just could not take our chances.

"We were punished for one mistake in the first half having had so many chances. Their goalkeeper was outstanding but we should have taken more of our chances.

"Obviously it is very difficult now for us to get through, but I believe we still can. There are three games left and we must win all three, but we can do that.

"We have to wait to see now what we must do, how the numbers add up. The fact that Porto drew with Marseille in the other group game was a help for us, it certainly improves our options.

"If we continue to play like we did in this match, with so much dominance, we have a chance.

"I do not see this as a test for me as a manager, this is football, if you keep doing the right things like we did here, we will achieve what we want."

If he thinks that was a pleasing performance and we need to

continue to play like we did in this match then this man has

lost the plot.

Fans arnt blind and stupid , if he cant be honest with the fans

then im afraid he has gone down in my estimation.Im not

quite in the calling for his head goup yet but if this is his post

match interview then wtf is going on in his brain.

Silly silly man.

I would have though if we continue to play like we did tonight, we'll be in serious trouble by Christmas.

it's all manager speak, a sanitized version of the events that he can put out to the press. those that didn't see the game will see a 2-1 loss and think we were unlucky to lose.

i really hope that his dressing room and training pitch comments are a little more pointed in certain directions, and that is after he has taken a close look at his own performance from yesterday.

Nothing new in this interview from Rafa, this was his standard interview after a match and he has been giving them since the day he arrived, so he is not going any way at all and he has not changed one bit.

Maybe some fans have started to open their eyes a bit more, thats the only change I can see.

I agree with this, we at least tried to pass the ball albeit sloppily.

Gerrard could very well have had three. There were clear cut chances amidst all the sloppiness and shirking possession. Our front two were hopeless, Pennant, Mascherano, Finnan, Carragher & Hyppia ditto. But if you look real close, we improved a bit. We started halfway well, pressing and working hard. Didn't start giving it away stupidly for a good ten or fifteen mins.

A pleasing performance , dominance ?? wtf

It was a hopeless display , absolutely shocking, In Ghs last days

he was always saying the same trying to say we played well blah blah .

I dont want the guy gone but a bit of honesty please, we were s****

and the fans know it or does he think we dont know good football when

we see it.

He is paid big bucks and has spent some bucks asembling this team,

money from most of our pockets , i dont want feeble carp spouting,

prehaps a public dressing down would help because nothing else is

working at the moment.

john am rein , because they were s***??or do you applaud mediocrity?

Not a good reason.

It's not necessary to either applaud mediocrity nor say they were s***.

In fact the best thing to say is almost certainly nothing at all - or a taciturn approximation to that, as provided by Kenny Dalglish.

As a fan of the club and contributer in ways to the club I expect

Rafa to come out and asses whats gone on.

I want to hear his opinions of how the game went etc.If you dont

want that then thats up to you,imo Rafa owes the fans that.

No he owes the fans results. If he thinks he'll be best served to get said results by not coming out and saying "We were f***ing last" then fine. Judge him on results, on performances, on trophies not whether or not he panders to the media/supporters like a f***ing perfoming seal.

Cant see where your coming from, he does the post match interview

and says a crock of s*** about how great we were.It winds me up

when people cant speak the truth , should i just accept that we were great?

im only after an honest assesment nothing more.

I would rather he didnt say anything at all or send SG out if its too much

trouble

It's insulting to rafa to suggest he is going the same way as GH.

I have every confidence that he will get it right, some of the threads on this forum today have been a joke. There is not a manager in the world I could honestly say i would like to see in Rafas shoes right now, he will make the required alterations and we will challenge for the title this season.

I can't see where you are coming from. I don't normally even watch or read the post-match interview because what do you expect him to say? Of course he shouldn't be honest. He should do the interview with LFC's best interests at heart. If he was being honest then he wouldn't be.

It's not rafas job to sell newspapers, he speaks to them and then they make up the headlines to sell a story. They would make up the headline regardless of how honest you perceive he is being. It's a shame he can't just tell them to f*** off.

Ultimately I agree with this. Sunday's massive though.
