Player of the season 2006/7

The end of the 3rd season of this little game of ours.

 

The votes are taken from 3 Liverpool Supporters sites: YNWA, Est1892 and 6CM.

The winner in 2004/5 was Jamie Carragher

The winner in 2005/6 was Steven Gerrard

 

The winner in 2006/7 is Dirk Kuyt

Somes points of note:

 

1. Javier Mascherano has made such an amazing impact quickly, he may be some player.

2. We are not a one man team.

3. Bellamy won most individual Man of the Match awards with 7.

4. Our new signings, Kuyt, Bellamy and Pennant have been successful in their first season yet have also had their critics, is this fair?

Just goes to show how underrated he is....but when he misses a game there is usual chaos in the defence.

 

We only realise what we have when he isn't there......he's alot like Reina.

Very interesting the way it works out - I think it's fair to say not many would have selected them in that order if asked on a one off basis, but over the season people have done exactly that with their selections from game to game.

 

Kuyt did really, really well in his first season in England, but not many would have picked him as their player of the season. Pennant's score shows just how well he did in the second half of the season; he must have won about 5 of those 6 MOMs in the after Christmas and did stand out regularly. I hope he continues his development into next season because he could become a top class right winger.

 

Finnan and Carra would definitely figure higher on a one off basis, I'd have both in my top 5 for this season; but I think this shows that consistantly steady performers like those two don't always catch the eye enough to get a one-off man of the match vote so it can be a little deceiving.

I would never have put Xabi at 2nd. Dirk was such a hard worker but he faded towards the end of the season. Pepe and Finnan were very good all season if you ask me.
