Tyler Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Should we not be interested in David Nugent of Preston. Looked very good last season. Liverpool lad (not sure red or blue) and wouldn't cost that much. Type of player who could do very well and worth a risk now for 3 million and not 13 million next year Thoughts?

Considering people think that Michael Owen isn't a good enough forward for us to sign this morning if we want to push on in the league, do you really think Nugent is the answer?
Guy_Incognito Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Who frequently goes on about being a blue and how he wants to play for them, according to a blue I was speaking to the other day who's a touch miffed about Sunderland apparently bidding for him
Tyler Posted June 14, 2007 Author Posted June 14, 2007 if we are going to buy potential i don't see the harm in buying some potential which has played in this countryjust because he doesn't have a suntan and one name doesn't mean we should write him off probably score as many goals in a season as any of our current strikers
Boca Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Type of player who could do very well and worth a risk now for 3 million and not 13 million next year Thoughts? Seeing as though Sunderland bid £6m for him yesterday, somehow I can't see Preston accepting £3m
Tyler Posted June 14, 2007 Author Posted June 14, 2007 if he refuses to move anywhere but liverpool then they would have to wouldn't they same as owen
smurfinaus Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 anyone care to list what attributes he has as a striker we would want, compared to what he is lacking?.Was thinking about this guy the other guy.....is he really any good and is he what we need?.
Sion Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Blue Big time. His goalscoring record is suprisingly crap as well. Where the myth he's a goalscorer has come from I don't know. He's averaged like a goal every 5 games in his career so far. £6m for him is madness...madness I tells the.

I'd imagine a starting point would be twice that. Plus he's a daft bluenose (not that we haven't had a few of those playing for down through the years).

Stevie H Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 nowhere near the standard we neednow david healy however. . .
Hightown Phil Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 There were at least 7 players who scored more than him in the Championship last season. He's the biggest example around at the minute of someone being over priced because they're English. He score 1 in 4 for Bury ffs.
JohnnyH Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Can't understand all teh fuss about this lad. he's s****, and he's a blue. He's a blues****.
Molby Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 another club is interested in him, so that means we must immediately make declarations like "we won't get involved in a bidding war" etc etc and walk away not that we'd want him mind in fact what t** suggested we buy him? - know your footie ffs
charlie clown Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 every year there's a numpty (no offence, Tyler) who thinks we should buy some flash in the pan player who's either scored a few in a lower division, bagged a few for a just promoted team or looks half decent in a really poor team - think Michael Ricketts, think Kevin Phillips, think Ashley Young.... a season or two later they look laughably rubbish and the people who drummed up a 'we should em sign' campaign should be chased out of the forum by a mob with pitchforks and nooses.
Tyler Posted June 14, 2007 Author Posted June 14, 2007 no offence taken mate i think the guy has potentialmaybe i'm wrongtime will tell
JohnnyH Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 no offence taken mate i think the guy has potentialmaybe i'm wrongtime will tell 1 goal in every 4 games in a lower league? I'd rather we just played with 10 men.
Mondavi Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 He's decent enough, and could get better, but I doubt he'll ever be good enough to be one of four strikers at a top club. He's a good fit with Sunderland. Borderline Premiership/Championship. I've no doubt he would score some good goals at Prem level, but he's no world beater. I know loads of PNE ST holders, and none are particularly fussed whether he stays or goes (and haven't been for a long time now), infact they'd be delighted if they get 6 million for him.
