Bootle Buck Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 With Stuttgart in first place it would be nice to see Markus Babbel get another winners medal before he retires at the end of this season. It was such a pity his career at Liverpool was cut so short. He was superb in the treble winning season. Good Luck Markus.
JohnnyH Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Best right back we've ever had for me. I'd have Rob Jones ahead of him. It doesn't take a huge amount to be a legend these days does it?
Guest Steve Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Nealy was great, as was Lawler and Rob Jones. Just thought Babel was immense in that short period. He had everything for me in that position.
johngibo YPC Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I'd have Rob Jones ahead of him. It doesn't take a huge amount to be a legend these days does it? to be fair he was boss that yearHow many goals did he score?
JohnnyH Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 to be fair he was boss that yearHow many goals did he score? Rob Jones got loads. The cameras just kept missing them.
johngibo YPC Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Rob Jones got loads. The cameras just kept missing them. just to clarify i was asking how many Babbel got in that seasonAnd i don't think Jones was any less of a player because of the goals he didn't score, or the camera's missed!
johngibo YPC Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 6 seemed like more at the timeGood going for a full back anyway
Will Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I don't think he's actually played for them this season, so I doubt he's getting a medal!
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Best right back we've ever had for me. I don't think that's too far off the mark. Others are obviously bigger legends, especially Neal, but Babbel was an incredible player. Best player in the Treble season, I thought.
pawlu Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 The first one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2a9XQNxU44 wasn't half-bad.
Mike Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Best right back we've ever had for me. f***ing hell, bobby grants off again.
Mike Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 he's not in the same category as chris lawler, phil neal or steve nicol.
Guest Steve Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 he's not in the same category as chris lawler, phil neal or steve nicol. Ridiculous. Those players are legends, but in terms of ability Babbel is right up there and beyond. His goal and celebration at pit in the Friday night game is the stuff of legend.
Will Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Babbel had a good season for us Phil Neal had 10 great seasons for us
Cobs Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Babbel had a good season for us Phil Neal had 10 great seasons for usindeed Babbel isn't fit to pay his Mortgage

His goal and celebration at pit in the Friday night game is the stuff of legend. steve nicol was football writers player of the year in 1989. you've got to be pretty damn special as a full back to get that.chris lawler scored over 40 goals for us as a full back, thats pretty damn special too.phil neal - the most decorated player in english football history.markus babbel had one good season for us. behave will ya big truck.
neej Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 The first one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2a9XQNxU44 wasn't half-bad. Strike a light - I'd forgotten the twins from Tintin were on the Alaves bench...
Guest Parm Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Nealy was great, as was Lawler and Rob Jones. Just thought Babel was immense in that short period. He had everything for me in that position. Agree with you, that 1 season he was with us, man he was brilliant. I dont know if that is enough to make him our best rb ever, but certainly one of the best over the past 10-15yrs.
Foo Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 He just proved furing that season that he was one of the better backs in Europe as he had proved for Bayern München the years before. An Excellent player.
Ripley Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 As I said in the Schalke thread, he has played 97 minutes this season and none since his 7 minutes in game 5, so no medal unless they have strange rules. VfB haven't won it yet, so no mockers please. Armin Veh is some manager/coach though. File Markus under HERO rather than LEGEND, probably - regardless of other thread.
