Barely lost a header all game, either as striker or importantly centre back. Immense from heskey and deserved every bit of that skipper's armband at the end today.

I remember watching him tear Argentina apart on his own at Wembley and thinking he'll be a top, top player. Maybe he just needed the right manager.

Heskey was indeed un-believeable

it was a psychologist he needed

he has all the physical attributes, most of the skill but nowhere near the mentality to be a top, top player

shame.

Agreed.....and the exact same could be said of Collymore.

Collymore was just mental.

Heskey didn't have enough self motivation. When he was up for it no one could handle him.

Not the brightest chap either, which doesn't help.

could you imagine collymore and heskey playing together if their heads were right ?????

I remember Collymore and Fowler was scary enough - as close a guarantee of goals each game you can get

Didn't see the match, but glad to hear Heskey did well, and that Wigan stayed up.

There were a few times when Heskey was just unstopable - much like Drogba can be. I don't really understand why he has such self doubt, or feels the need to spend so much time on his @ss.

Out of interest, how many games did Robbie and Collymore play alongside each other?

Collymore only played around 60 games for us, so the 2 of them probably played around 40-45 games together.

I remember 95/96, when the two of them scored 55 goals between them. They were amazing that year.

I wonder if we'll ever have such a partnership again, or whether the game is too different now with rotation, playing only 1 up front etc.

I remember a series of 3 games where they were both scoring - and they started away to Newcastle that year - they scored from the kickof

I think robbie passed to collymore who beat 3 players and scored - amazing -- think the goal was disallowed though

but the point is that was as close to the perfect partnership I've seen, 55 goals a season between them says it all

Our defence as a whole weren't too great that year.... Babb, Ruddock... Dicks? who ever, they had absolutely no consistency. And it was during that period where everytime we conceeded a corner, it looked likely the other team would score

Eto'o and Tevez - 2007/08 season

Allow me to take offence at the last remark

I have never recovered from that. I f***ing hate when we are defending corners.
