Gunga Din Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 i was concerned all week about this game tonight, i wasnt concerned because i think Chelsea are better than us, i was concerned because in recent weeks Chelsea have been playing every game like a cup final, high intensity, full throttle. we, on the other hand, have been coasting, nothing matches with our minds on tonights game, and i felt that as a a result of that, we would be slow out of the blocks tonight, and to an extent, i felt we were, it took us 45 minutes to get going tonight. i said last saturday before the Wigan game that we should treat it as a dry run for Chelsea, same team, same formation, same tempo that we planned for tonight, but we didnt,a nd tonight i felt we were caught cold. so it all comes down to next Tuesday. its a bigger challenge than last time, this time Chelsea will think they know what to expect, in terms of atmosphere and the team. what every single Liverpool fan must do next tuesday is play their part. the whole "12th man" thing is played to death, but i genuinely believe the Anfield crowd can play their part. we need to lift this team up and carry them to the final. it can be done, it will be done, we will do it together. get behind the team, sing and shout till your voice goes. success is not, and never has been our divine right. we are only successful because we earned it. now lets earn it again. next Tuesday night has all the ingrediants it needs to surpass the memory of 2005. we have to make it happen. we cant take European Cup semi's for granted, they dont come around often enough to take for granted, so lets make it count. teh famous old ground hasnt many big European nights left, lets make the next one extra special!! Joey Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I'm not glad we lost by any stretch of the imagination, but I think this game has given us the kick up the a*** we needed. If it had been a boring 0-0 I think a lot of people would of expected an atmosphere like 2005 and it wouldn't of happened. Now - like 2005 - I think everyone will realise they've got a part to play and if we sing our hearts out we'll make a difference.

surf Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 We need to score two goals and if they score we need three. Our mindset has to be positive and 100% commited. We really need to get at them from the start and get an early goal. It's going to take a performance that eclipses Olympiakos, a performance of near Istanbul proportions.
Benzo-13 Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Brill stuff Wayne, wish I'd be there with the rest of my LFC brother's but can't so please take the roof off and show these jumped up tw*ts that "THIS IS ANFIELD"!!!!

Hit the nail on the head there Wayne. As soon as we saw the Chelsea team sheet with Cole, Carvalho and Makelele all starting we knew it was going to be a full on assault from them. They had strength down both flanks, up front, in midfield and a solid back 5. During the first half they came close to putting the tie firmly in their favour but we held on. I think we've done well to come away from a poor performance and be still in the tie at only a goal down. Aurelio is a massive loss but if we get Finnan back then the team will have much more balance and solidity to it on Tuesday.
surf Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Liverpool fans were excellent tonight, heard all the songs. The only thing i heard from the Chelsea 'fans' was the rustling of their poncy little flags.

When Blackburn were drawn with Chelsea in the FA Cup semi I really thought they'd beat 'em, upset the form book. Blackburn were too focussed on the game though, lost their form in the next few league games. When it came down to it, despite being the centre of their thinking for weeks, it was just too much to get 'up' again. I think we've done the same. Certainly the players, probably the fans, perhaps the manager. He's experimented with 4312, 4231 & 4411 in recent weeks, all formations that would give Chelsea somthing to think about, and yet goes out tonight with a simple 442. The men in form, Crouch & Pennant, on the bench. Mourinho's been bleating all week about how we'll be fresher and more 'up for it' with this being our only chance of silverware. It seems the opposite has happened - Chelsea are fighting on 3 fronts. Although not in great form they're certainly on full throttle. We seemed slower and less powerful. In truth it could have been a spanking looking at the first half hour. We wanted to win this tie, Chelsea NEED to win every game - there's the difference tonight.
Mr Makaveli Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 (edited) I think its all over... you might all think this is madness however I'll say it anyway. I think we;ll all agree than liverpool need goals.. we need to draw chelsea out.,... I think we need to play with the highest defensive line ever... however ou defense is sooo soo slow compared to cole etc... I think we should use bellamy as a centre back. yep. I think he's useless otherwise and he's faster than anything chelsea have up front... he has no defensive qualities at all.. my basis for this is that they would be unable to catch us totally on the break if he stayed back and held up play for a few seconds while people got back, simply cause we need to go all out attack... we need to utterly crush this chelsea team, cause they are quite happy to soak up piecees of attack, however if we lay siege to their defence then they will of course fall.. If we do this usually they will catch us on the break and of course score a very easy away goal that essentially puts us out (needing 3). we will of course not adopt anything that what ive advised above as its very mad. But it is exactly what we need. Edited April 25, 2007 by Mr Makaveli
Cam Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I think we should use bellamy as a centre back.Window-licker.
Mr Makaveli Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I think the idea of total football has sa place here and I think that it could work.. bellamy doesnt have to have the traits of a defender , however his ability to be able to keep up and slow down attacks would give us more of an edge attacing wise as we'd soak them up and then just bleed em dry on the edge of their box for 90 mins... if you think it's such a bad idea then say why rather than leaving 2 stupid words. I see no other way than leaving it to luck.... Mmmm, glass. glass?? fickle am I? you know that we need 3 if they score? you dont see them scoring then? you think it'll be an easy 2-0??? if it is then great but it wont be f***ing easy at all... glass am i? tool
Michael Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I have no doubt that Chelsea will score at Anfield, but that may not be so telling. Just remember the old adage: "It only takes six minutes to score three goals"
Cam Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Whoosh. Ask yer carer. Oooooh, it's double-glazed. I'll have second helpings.
Mr Makaveli Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I have no doubt that Chelsea will score at Anfield, but that may not be so telling. Just remember the old adage: "It only takes six minutes to score three goals" sorry mate, we cant expect a fairytale everytime... and this is somemthign we've become used to... liverpool fc has almos become some kind of religious experience... we've done what just doesnt do... however there is a time when we have to look at whats going o and realise that is isnt going to go... in 05 we were equal to chelsea.. tonight we were f***ing pathetic... 2nd half was much better I admit but we still lacked any form of creativitl.. I find it funny that Im mocked for my disbelief... am i the only one who saw what happened tonight??? are people running on fumes or blind faith here or what??? if we dont improve massively then god cant help us. Liverpool were shockingly bad tonight, let the possession tell you nothing, chelsea sat back and very easily handled it. Whoosh. Ask yer carer. Oooooh, it's double-glazed. I'll have second helpings. whoosh.
