Mr Makaveli Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Maybe it's just the supersticious side of football but I get a horrible feeling from many of the people on here that they are frightened of the up coming games in the champions league... sure we've every right to be afraid of another semi final tie against a team as good as chelsea , nevermind the possibility of a final against Utd. I'm not sure where I stand when it coems to confidence. There is the side of me that thinks, ya we did it before and we can do it again, but then there is also the side of me that looks at the manner that we progressed in and it does dawn on you that we really did scrape through a few times. I am not taking away from what we did, it was amazing... we beat the best teams in europe to get to the final and then that game alone was another chapter in itself. Things came close to us never even having this wonderful 5 times to chear about.. whether its lampards miss towards the end or Cannavaros header in turin that came off the post.. It is easy to say that this was luck but it is true that you make you own luck and our fans were a big part of it. To me , this time around is just as nerve wrecking and exciting as the 05 campaign... I just hope that we can start to perform as a team with the expectationt hat we now have from some corners... we were always a great 'underdog' and I hope that we can let this go and just beat the best teams and come to expect to see us up there .. to hold the belief in the club etc.. mostly though, I hope the fans stay as passionate as they have been when things weren't going so well, when we weren't looking to repeat a CL win. I can't wait to face chelsea and I really hope we at elast make runners up... I say that now, but if we do get into the final then its winning it or tears
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 I'm dreaming of a Chelsea vs Manchester United final. Between Liverpool and Milan, we share ELEVEN European Cups. It would be good for football if a smaller club won it.

Paul B Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Can't stand all this limp-wristed, weak-kneed, girly-swirly cowardice going around. People giving it, "oooh, I'm scared of Chelsea and scared of playing Man Utd in Athens." FFS, get a grip! This is the roller-coaster of football. You don't like it, watch something else. And keep your negativity inside, don't infect the rest of us with it. Bring on Chelsea and then bring on Manchester United in Athens. That's what I want. To hell with caution and fear.
Stevie H Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 (edited) we're in the semi-final of the european cup, what's not to be excited about? they're just another team ffs. Edited April 18, 2007 by Steve H

Magic8Ball Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 The fact of the matter is deep down most people here realize we are not a potent enough attack wise. The other areas of our game are good but we rely on team making mistakes rather than forcing them into mistakes, or being so good that we still score even if they don't make mistakes. with the above in mind, our playing Chelsea sees 2 teams evenly matched playing, should be interesting. The major advantage this version of Chelsea have over us is their ability to score in the last minute, other than that Drogba is having a great season ( but should be suspended for the return game at Anfield ;-) ) and Diving Cole is back -that having been said the games vs Chelsea should be won on tactics and execution. Games vs Utd are different, they are a potent attacking force and when you have that in your armoury anything can happen
RedMarauder Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 On the positive front - Mr prolific, Drogba, has only scored once in the last 10 games, whereas Crouch has 5 in 5 with less playing time and Chelsea have always struggled to score against us in the CL. Chelsea are a very fit team, but as Maureen tells us they are still fighting on 3 fronts and the likes of Lampard, Drogba and Essien may just struggle.......it's Shevchenko, Cole and Mikel that worry me more due to form and fitness!
cymrococh Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 We'll batter all comers. I don't want to play the mancs because I don't want them to reach a final.
Stew F Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Can't stand all this limp-wristed, weak-kneed, girly-swirly cowardice going around. You are Gene Hunt and I want my fiver Mr. Mak If it all gets too much for you, just think of next season and try to think past next month. What will be will be - just give it your all if you go to the game. Everything else is out of your hands.
genghis Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Am I the only one who thinks deep down Chelsea will have been sh*tting themselves ever since it became clear we're playing them? They must dread it. They know we're a hard, hard team to play against, and that Rafa seems to have worked out how to play against Mourinho's "tactics". Yes, they might yet beat us, but I'll guarantee that before the tie kicks off they would rather be playing almost any other team - including Barca. Sometimes we forget a) how good we are in Europe b) how much everyone else realises that. Oh one last thing - if you think Chelsea hate playing us, can you imagine how much Milan don't want us to get through? At what point in the final would they stop being nervous? 1 up? 2-0 up? 3-0? Nope Plus of course the Glams will just be dreading the biggest nightmare possible for them - Robbie scoring the winning pen and giving it 6 fingers If we lose to Chelsea or the Mancs, we can shrug and point to our FIVE EUROPEAN CUPS, and know we'll be back in the last 4 more often than not over the next few years.
Ronnie Whelan Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 The upside of beating united in the final is pretty evident but the downside does not even bear thinking about. With that in mind, I will settle with a controversial winner against Chelsea and penalty shoot out win against milan in the final.
Lee W Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 (edited) We've got a great record against Chelsea recently in knock-out comps. Can't wait for this one - especially if we lose 2-1 in the first leg. Edited April 18, 2007 by Lee W

Can't wait for this one - especially if we lose 2-1 in the first leg. Why on earth would you want to give them a goal start - considering how solid they are? Ive had a bad feeling about this tie but the more i think about it the more i think we will be ok. Also if we did beat united in the final what could possibly ever top that as a liverpool supporter, apart from maybe winning the league at old trafford.

An Alex Ferguson & Howard Kendall gay sex scandal.

Flasher Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I can't believe how confident I am when it comes to the European Cup. It's all down to Rafa too - he's a master in Europe. One day soon he'll master the Premiership too. I honestly believe we will win the 'Ol Big Ears again this year.
Sir_Bob_Paisley Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I don't care who we play in the semi or final. We are Liverpool
