Is it now just accepted that it ok for the press to refer to us as 'thieveing scousers' in one way or another? On Sunday I read the Times match report which ended: 'Daylight roberry on Merseyside, how rare is that?' Then reading the Evening Standard last night Pete Clark (t***) gave his 'Armchair View' of Liverpool going through: It began...'There have been some great nights at Anfield- no, i'm not kidding so hold on to your hubcaps at the back, please- but this was surely not one of them. It ended... 'Carragher and Gerrard appeared sweatliy for a post match interview and gave conclusive proof that when it comes to saying nothing with attitude a scouser will always give 110%'

Personally, I'm getting fvcked off in the extreme about this. I think it's completely out of order to keep bringing up these stereotypes which they seem to think not offensive to anyone.

I'm way past caring what the media have to say about our great club.

i mean it in all seriousness. as in the John Lennon song woman is the n****r of the world.

i know its a taboo, but ive felt it for some time.

its no longer ok to crack irish jokes about them being thick paddy bog hoppers. but its still ok to have a similarly prejudiced view of Liverpool.

Especially as she's a scouser herself who took 5 years and more in local journalism to 'lose' her accent.

Agree completely with Mike on this. It's pissed me off for decades.

It is also apparently fine to blithely repeat stereotypes about the Welsh.

I would argue that the point about the Irish being exempt is not totally true either.

Same here Mike, f*cking winds me up it does.

'Thieving scouser' is universally acceptable anywhere you go, wheras if you applied it to just about anyone else on the planet it's a sackable offence.

Political correctness applies to everyone except those from Liverpool.

Sorry Robfar - but you're not helping much with your name

:D

On a serious note, it's something which has evolved over many years. We have such a unique identity for so many reasons that we stick out wherever we go. Generalising, everyone has an opinion on Liverpool and Liverpudlians, whereas nobody has an opinion on any other city/natives. We're canon fodder for the bigots and those who like to think they can crack a funny. It's wrong, it's not nice, it's boring but we're stuck with it as we're different and not protected by the laws protecting other minorities against such things.

I was just about to make that point & ginger people get it from all sides too.

It's just that latent, petty hatred that exists in English society - rise above it, happy in the knowledge that you're better than them.

Again, got to agree totally - and the Scots while we're here.

Hadn't thought of that! Anyway, I'm writing to the press complaints comission which although a waste of time will make me feel better!

Been wondering about this one for years. Bang out of order I'd have thought.

But if anyone should bother to complain about it then you'll get the whole "whinging Scousers" thing, which is also ridiculous.

It's just cheap humour, anyone who needs to rely on it obviously isn't particularly funny anyway.
