.....by Christ, he can miss an easy chance in a big game liek nobody on earth. His finishing is really becomng an issue.

Works his socks off, never hides, but he's got to start putting them away.

you've not been watching Liverpool long have you  That is one hell of a statement!

But it's an issue all the strikers we've had for years have had, not taking a chance like that in a game where chances will be at a premium.

He looked a bit over-awed last night but he's a class player in his 1st year at the club and playing at this level for the first time so it's understandable. I think we do have a problem with self-confidence - the players need to believe in themselves more - but results like this breed confidence both in the team and the supporters.

Have to say its his big weakness, there were 2 chances he really should have put away last night

even so there are times when I look at Kuyt and see shades of Shearer ( if only Kuyt had his finishing )

Header he had just before we scored was difficult I think, much more than Sky gave him credit for.

Should have buried it when Gerrard played it through though.

I'm amazed by how bad his first touch is.

Dont get me wrong I think he's a good player but his first touch is terrible.

His touch swings from watchmaker to rapist from game to game. Sometimes great, sometimes dreadful.

He's shown signs that he can be clinical in front of goal. This might sound a bit strange but personally I think because he works so hard all over the pitch it takes away from his sharpness in front of goal. All the back tracking he does might just lose his edge. I think he is the perfect player for this team and the system Rafa plays. He just needs someone next to him that if he sets up on 10 occasions will score 7-8 times.

I agree and I think the same will affect any striker playing for Liverpool - having to work so hard for the team can remove some of the composure in front of goal - they're just too tired

I really think people should stop saying anything even slightly negative about Kuyt. It's starting to catch on and it's utterly wrong. I think these people should be embarrassed for themselves.

basically shut the f*** up like! ;)

Our record goalscorer worked harder than virtually anyone.

he was mockered from an early age by my dad, he said after his second game for liverpool "Ian Rush wont score a goal for liverpool as long as there is a hole in his a***"

Classic that one

thought kuyt was superb last night, he worked his ass off, you could see him closing down players, tracking back and doing an important job for the team.....we do see this in nearly every game he plays, obviously told to do so by Rafa....really it doesnt benefit Kuyt, though he doesnt seem to complain and works hard for the team..

Yes he missed that chance and has missed a few others in recent weeks......but c`mon its his first season and his track record suggests him being more clinical is only a matter of time.

I think he's been very poor since Christmas.

Misses far, far too many clear cut chances and has a woeful first touch.

There's only so much 'hard work' can compensate for.

We could have Gerd Muller in his prime and he'd be missing chances. It's a post-Owen Liverpool thing...

i think if you're looking for a goalscorer kuyts not what you're after...there's a lot lot more to his game. i've got no real complaints with him but for his first touch which can be brutal.

i've said it before but it's very strange because at other times his deftness of touch is superb.

In the past four or five games he has looked fairly slow and his touch has been poor. However, he is one of those players Manager's love who give 110% and will always get in dangerous positions.

He works hard and always will, but recently he hasnt been at it. Wouldnt worry about him though, he'll be fine, just going through a tough spell.

ESPN commentator was wondering why Kuyt was coming deep for the ball after he was fouled for the free kick that led to the equalizer.

Ever think he was playing to orders from the manager?

Kuyt is a cracking player and will score goals, but he will also miss some.Guess what? That is what all strikers do.

You would think that Rush, Owen, Dalglish never missed a chance at goal.

I think Rafa needs to cut the strikers some slack and allow them to actually hang around the opposing penalty area a little more. I think our strikers are asked to do far too much tracking back. Its no shock that we haven't had a 20 goal/season striker in a long time.

He?s doing fine. Lots of movement ? makes him a nightmare to mark. Anyone trying it will end up leaving gaps in the defence for the midfield / other strikers to exploit. I?m just trying to think of that Spanish team a few years ago that had players moving all over the park and spread their goals out all over the place ? not many from the strikers though because they were doing more than just shooting at goal ..
