Just looking at our odds for winning the Champions League with Paddy Power ....... 22/1

That seems very good value to me. Fair enough we've got to get past the best team in the competition first, but the flip side of that is if we do ( and I think we will ) then theyre gone. And at that stage so will half of all the other sides.

Chelsea are 3/1, we're 22/1 ..... is there really that much of a gulf in class between us?

Great price that.

Really can't understand how bookies, who rarely get it wrong, can underestimate us that much.

Because they rarely get it wrong

:D

When they do, it don't 'alf cost them. :D

Nah...they offer long odds because they're getting no bets. Same difference.

Bookies. Never. Lose.

Are there odds for any all English quarter-final ties ?

Posted

does this mean people secretly reckon we have a chance ?

course we have a chance, no secret about it.

Bookies are wrong every single day of the week, btw.

I would say they are wrong one day a week, otherwise they would not be turf accountants. ;)

they are wrong every day, unless every favourite wins every race/event every day

bookies adjust odds to entice sufficient bets on all runners so that they come out on top regardless of the winner.

Often, when they're right and the favourite wins is when they take the biggest panning and they actually lose

people do know this, right ?

One question.

Have you ever seen a poor turf accountant ?

we are 22/1 not just cause of our posible quality, but the quality of the team we are up against. Barca are defending champions with several world class players playing for them... of course we're far from favourites... the bookies are dead right.

But surely if we beat Barca then our price will go down hugely. So there's a decent chance of profit to be made. I think 22/1 for the team that won it two years ago with a weaker squad (but the same manager) is a little bit insane, to be honest.

So go bet some money?

bookies never lose collectively. Individually, they do(can).

It's purely economics. If everyone suddenly gets on say ManC for the League - as they can (probably) technically win it, their odds will plummet. Doesn't mean they're any more or less likely to achieve that

No no no you lie surely. I thought they were the one's who can see the future and make you guess what it will be?

Maybe they look at the League table

You see 'em every day. Sitting under railway bridges with brown paper bags containing bottles of meths.

The reason no one ever sees a poor bookie is that the poor ones stop being bookies, pretty rapidly.

As my hero JP McManus said, bookies are just glorified punters.

They ar great odds alright, considering they are mainly stacked against us due to our opponents in the next stage. Given the scenario in Barca at the moment I am surprise they have not reduced even further and watch them move below 8/1 when we beat barca.

As an aside; I always find it difficult to put money on long term bets and in my world waiting til may to collect is a long term bet. I bet on an a few accumulators a few times a week for matches happening that day. I couldnt wait 3 or 4 months to collect thanks.

Valencia are 27/1 on Betfair. Now that's great odds.

Granted they have Inter next but this is the weakest Serie A in living memory. Valencia are in good form in a much stronger league. I fancy them to knock Inter out.

Why are Milan 16s?! They didn't get an away goal, granted but home tie against a team who've only lost away from home in Europe this season and Milan are a quality team still.
